I would love to buy some Random Tech high flow cats and a Corsa cat back system, but that is just too much $$$$ for me right now.

Problem: I am seeing some slight paint fading on the front of my side sills and of course the heat...

Question: Has anyone ever changed the stock cats out for high flow cats BUT kept the rest of the exhaust stock? Seems like a reasonable solution for the $$$$ issue and the heat issue.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

There's an even cheaper option. Ditch the cats and substitute with straight pipes. Of course, this would be for off road use only. :D

Well, of course. ;) I would suspect that just straight pipes would make quite a difference in making the sills cooler.

What would that do to the sound? I don't want it to be too loud!

Trust me, it will not be too loud, unless you remove the resonators. And you are correct, the side sills will be MUCH cooler.

Should be an somewhat easy fix. Piece of pipe, a saw, 4 adaptors, 8 new band clamps, and some anti-sieze compound. Then, if I ever sell the car and someone really wants it back to stock the old cat can be welded right back on and clamped at the back. Thanks for the idea... Now hope for some warmer weather for me (at least in the mid-40's). I love this board!!! :2tu:

Sounds like the way to go. What about the oxygen sensors for the monitors? I assume they have them. Are simulators available?

I just had that thought last night. Without the cats there, will that set off the oxygen sensor located right after the resonator? I don't know? I may start a new thread just for that question.
