just wondering...i have a gen 1 viper with an oil cooler on it, it came with the car when i purchased it. im thinking of upgrading to a gen 2 or gen 3 viper...should i look into getting one of these for them or are the newer vipers ok without one?...just wondering the benefits of having and oil cooler on a viper.

thanks

hey vprtkmike

when i took it in for an oil change (at the dealer) they told me i needed 2 extra quarts, 10 instaed of the 8 required in the manual...they said it was do to an oil cooler...what does this mean then...they are too stupid too know about the oil cooler, or are they ripping me off on the extra two quarts?

Gen 1 Vipers take around 11 quarts with filter change, and, like a previous poster said, all Vipers have oil coolers stock. (I don't recall my '95 owner manual saying 8 quarts - are you sure you read it right? )

make sure the person you talked to knows a little or alot about vipers, IF He said it takes 2 xtra quarts because of the oil cooler, RUN the other direction and go to another dearler and ask for a viper tech.

hey randy

the person who told me it would take the extra 2 quarts was a service manager...not the viper tech. they said in their service manual that vipers were only to take 8 quarts...but the previuos owner said it would take ten...like he told me that is what it takes. not quite 11 quarts...i have had the oil changed twice and it only took 10 quarts...right to full.

is this abnormal?

hey twinturbo3150...big fan of the "grocery getter" i wish i had a srt 8 charger as mine...but im stickin with my expedition for at least a few more years before i move on to something else! also the tech at this dealer is not working on vipers all the time, but he is a certified vipertech, and basically when i take my car in he goes right to his manual for pricing. his prices are by far the best around town here! I would expect all of his work would be warranted if something fails do to lack of knowledge...god for bid that would happen!...knock on wood

The service mananger is not a Viper tech. Don't take his word for ANY thing. If you want correct info, you ask here first. My guess is even your Viper tech has limited experience with the car. Chuck Tator and JonB are the information gods around here. :2tu:
