I have a 2008 Viper convertible on order through my local dealer. Assuming that the parts are availabe at the time the 2008s start being delivered (summer/early fall by best estimates), I would like to upgrade the car with the Mopar parts showcased at the Detriot Auto Show (Mopar cold air intake, headers and cat-back exhaust).

Question: is there any advantage or disadvantage performance-wise to having these parts installed by the dealer before I pick up the car? For example, is it wiser to allow the car to complete any break in with the stock parts before installing upgrades? The only "advantage" I could think of to waiting till later is that it would enable an owner to complete break in, dyno the car to get a baseline of stock engine performance and then see what performance gains (or heaven forbid losses) result from the upgrades.

The major advantage to not waiting till later would be that the car would come "stock" from the dealer with the upgraded parts and I would avoid the hassle of multiple trips to the delaer for installlation of the parts.

What say you all? Thanks!

Also making the jump to an 08. At whatever point my color will be available (purple) I will put as much of the mopar parts on before delivery. I think the only other advantage will be the time savings. Break in will not be an issue.
With your left over parts maybe you can retro fit them to the Nighthawk Black Pearl Honda Odyssey Touring . :D
Sorry couldn't resist.

Oh, and I am also torn between getting the convertible in Viper GTS Blue or in Purple (or even Purple with White stripes) but I think I would need to see an actual color swatch of the purple up close or see an actual car in that color.

Purple with white stripes is pretty much what I am going to get. From the photochops Austins has made to the colors Chris showed from the VCA my choice is pretty much final.

It is usually better to have any accessories installed by your dealer before you sign your purchase agreement or take delivery of your new car as they normally will be covered by the manufactures full warranty. Make sure all accessories are on your contract and also make sure the service manager has registered them in the system. he can give you a print out from service of all the options and accessories installed on your car if you ask for it.

I think if they are installed as a dealer option, they will be under the same waranty as the car.
