Recent Aldan Experience

I saw a couple of July threads from folks who put the Aldans from ROE on over the Summer. Now that those have been on for a while, what are your thoughts? I've got a Gen1 and I'm looking to get some external adjustability for changes between track (road course) and street use. The price on the Aldans seems very cheap compared to other packages.

I have them on my Gen3 and so far my experience has not been good. They felt fine when I lived in Vegas as we have smooth roads for the most part. Since moving to So Cal the roads have really shown that these shock/springs are not really that good at all. I went with the stock springs 500/700lb and any bump shoots the car all over the place or bottoms it out. I am going to tighten my adjustments on the shocks all the way in a few days, as I am currently at about 3/4 of the adjustability to see what that will do. I may as a last resort change out the springs to something a little more stiffer and see what that does. But I just hate spending anymore money on these probably knowing it won't help much. I paid around $1200 from Partsrack, so if I add in another $200 or so for springs from Partsrack, I will be up to $1400 plus installation twice basically. I am really disappointed in them. I don't even track my car, so god knows how they would dissappoint on the track! Partsrack should really not carry these I think, totally dissappointed so far.

i actually heard about bad stuff about this from a very reliable source. i hear that at higher speeds car kinds floats around and not stable...

I went with very light 300/500 springs. I really like the lighter springs as the car rides SO much better than with the old Eibachs (I also raised it about a half inch which helps with my driveway and dips). I can say that the damping adjustments both compression and rebound are in a great range in the front. I can take it from under-damped to over-damped. But the rear barely has enough damping (rebound adjustable only) for even my light 500 pounds springs. Good news is the softer rear really helps straight line traction. Bad news is that while the front feels perfect the rear feels a little soft. Unless they have different base damping settings they send you if you request heavier springs it would have to be worse with the stiffer rears most order. Over all I like my set-up a lot, but most would think it was soft and it is not perfectly matched front-to-rear.

I agree with the increased straight line traction. Traction isn't an issue anymore in my car at speed with my power. You are also correct in that the rear is definitly softer than the fronts. Your ride must very soft if I am complaining about my 500/700 being soft and yours is 300/500. Hopefully by me tightening the rear rebound all the way it will satisfy me.
