I would like to add a proximity sensor to my stock alarm. I had an Alpine alarm when I owned Wrangler a while back. It was great, would chirp if someone got too close and go off if they didn't move. Also had a radar that would trip if someone reached into the vehicle. That would be perfect for days when the top is down. Alarm would also beep to let you know it had been triggered and the number of beeps would tell you in what way. Would also chirp of you left something on that could drain the battery. it was a great alarm!!!

Since Alpine does the head units for Dodge on these cars, is it safe to assume that they do the alarms as well and that such a sensor is available?

Lo Jack would be awesome once my car is already stolen to recover it. The idea is to avoid a theifs temptation.

The point of an alarm is to avoid it getting stolen and dealing with insurance. Worst case scenerio is you get it back as a theft recovery with a lot of damaged. That would show up on a carfax report and destroy the value of your car.

I live in miami, go partying a lot, drive the car all night, sometimes leave it parked at awkward places i cant avoid. When I go to my vacation home in the keys it dosn't have a garage and sleeps in the driveway.

From what i have heard the new thing is people in towtrucks stealing cars.

Lo Jack and car insurance is the best way to go

Lo Jack is a joke!!! If your car is stolen you have to know about it. Then after reporting it they have to have a police car in the area of the the car with the Lo Jack receiver in it and guess what, the police dept have to buy them. So how many police car do you think have them? stop one and ask if he has a Lo Jack receiver in his car. Best way to go is get GPS Tracking. It will instantly notify you if your car has been moved without permission. You can also have it notify you if your alarm is going off. Also has features like starter cut off and emergency door unlocking. You can look at your car on the internet anytime of any day and see where it is and how long its been there.

Also definately add another alarm. A properly installed and adjusted alarm will work flawlessly. I have a Viper 1 mile range alarm and starter unit with a 2 way pager remote. I added a radar sensor for the people who like to lean into the car with the top off. You should see the looks on peoples faces when they're staring at my car then it starts by itself!!:D:D:D Priceless!! JD

Alarme are useless. Even insurance wont give you a real rebate. They go on so many times that no one pays attention. Best is to see with your insurance what protection they recommande for your area. Usually Viper are not high risk vehicules (even though they are easy to steal)

The most important is to determine againts what risk you want to protect your Viper.

Marking parts will push away professionals who are looking to part out your Viper.

A GPS system is the most widely system user by insurances against "professional exportators".

Hidden ignition disablaling system will push away young and senor joyriders.

What insurances hate the most are frauds ! As long as the insurances knows what happened to your Viper they will pay every single add-on if you have the bills. Insurance hates when a car vanishes because they don't know what happened. This is why some insurance requires a GPS system to trace where your Viper went from the place where you left it at a shopping center.

The alarm will only scare birds but not thiefs !

Insurance companies hate liability claims. Stolen cars are very small claims to them. Check out how much you pay for comp compared to liability. I think I pay $200 a year for comp on my viper and $2,500 a year for liability between my two cars.
They hate fraud too but in most cases it is not worth the money to investigate.

I would go with leave it alone. The system you have is fantastic and over the years one of the biggest problems we have had with Vipers electricals are ones that had alarm systems added. We have actually yanked them out of quite a few cars as the issues/concerns would not go away till turned back to stock!

Save your bucks and buy some fun stuff for da beast!:2tu:

I have a Viper alarm system with the pager. Had it installed a few months after purchasing the car. Don't use it anymore but it was pretty neat. It paged you when something went wrong and told you on what part of the car and it also had door poppers which I thought was pretty neat.
