Removing bolts on valve covers??

I did a search, and nada. It's too damn hot for me to pull a valve cover to look, so I'm going to ask: Do you have to remove the valve covers in order to remove the bolts that are on the sides? The bolts I'm referring to are the ones that the sparkplug wire holders mount to. I can remove 1 on the passenger side, because it has a nut on the base. The others are threaded all the way down to the covers, so nothing on the outside to grab onto.

The reason I ask is because I bought ABs wires along with these:

I've filed them down and AB's wires fit perfectly. I just need to remove the stock bolts, so I can mount 'em.
