Have any of you guys removed the cats from a 2000 Viper? Does it give a check engine light? Was ABS available in 2000?

I was thinking I would need the sims. I have removed the cats on several 96s and 97s with no check engine lights. I had heard that the computers on the 98 and newer cars were more sensitive to mods.

Parts rack doesnt list the sims on the web site. Do you know how much they cost?

You will definitely set a light in a 2000. Need O2 sims. Get the plug-in kind instead of soldering....much easier. As for earlier cars I have 2 friends with 98-99 cars and they have had intermittent lights. Code reader/eraser solves that problem easily for intermittent lights due to no cats or 02 sensors. I don't believe there were many lights tripped prior to 98.

Where do you get the plug in sims? The ones from Roe say that there is soldering required.

I got mine in April of 2002 from Apex Motorsports in Ca. Not sure they handle Viper stuff anymore. The picture from the Roe link above looks to be plug-in. Maybe he didn't update the info. When I bought mine, the Roe sims were definitely a solder job. Give them a call.

Anything 00+ will definitely need sims, 99 is questionable but anything pre 99' you should be good to go.

Also it's just a plug in O2 sim, no need to drop $140 on them. Check out the ones they list on summit, as well as the dakota/ram parts. I'd bet $$$ to doughnuts they will work just great. I've got a set if any SoCal guys want to give it a try.

I used the Casper Electronics sims...all you do is unplug the old O2 sensor from underneath the car (leave the sensor in the pipe) and plug the sims in then zip tie all the wires up.

Emissions laws changed in about '98 forcing DC to put sensors not only infront of the cats, but now also behind. If you don't have O2 sensors behind your cats (you can see them up behind the rear wheels) you don't need sims. Someone maybe able to chime in here to be more specific on the year the change was made.
I can tell you that the 2000 needs the sims in place of the sensors when removing the cats. It will not completely eliminate the check engine light coming on. I have the simms from Roe and every now and again my light comes on. I have bought an OBDII code reader and just simply reset it whenever I need. My buddy has a 2000 as well and he also has the same odd check light pop up. He sourced his simms somewhere else. I can't remember where.
