The manual says DO NOT RESURFACE FLYWHEEL. Has anybody removed ten thousanths of a inch? (.010) and used a new stock clutch without a problem? I'm ready to install. Please advise.

I was told not to, but instead take an orbital sander to it with 60-80 grit paper and take out the blue/black spots(normal from use). Unless there are deep groves, you should be ok with just sanding to ruff up the surface..

Sounds like a good time to upgrade to an aluminum Fidanza to me. I put mine in when I replaced the clutch, and I couldn't be happier with it.

ok, here I go out on a limb again..

I did resurface my steel flywheel .007 and had no issues. The manual/manufacturer is concerned that after you take off too much, the slave cyclinder wont extend far enough in to release the pressure plate. So its not that big of a deal, but if you remove too much, the slave fully extended might not fully release your clutch.

The flywheel that is in the car now is an RPS Aluminun flywheel. I'm also using the Spec Stage 3 carbon fiber clutch. This combination was never good from the initial install. The clutch would never completely disengage. When In first gear with the clutch pedal fully depressed the car wanted to creep forward slightly when I reved the motor. Bleeding the clutch was NOT the answer. The slave clyinder was also new during the install. Now the transmission will not shift/release from gear above 4000 rpm's. I'm am going back to the stock set-up. New cluth/p.plate/bearing with the original flywheel resurfaced .010 removed. Any thoughts/comments would be helpful. Thanks Tim

FYI, my car has always "pulled" ever so slightly since new, when I would reve it up, while still in gear, with clutch fully depressed. I have had 2 clutches in the car, oem and oem replacement once the first one wore out. Don't know that its typical for vipers, but was never really a problem, as it doesnt move the car but an inch or two, and a quick tap of the brake would stop it if I was worried. Or just simple take it out of gear when i pipe someone while sitting at a light ;-)

Now your other isssue, I would rather see the parts in hand then to try to make a guestimate as to what was wrong. Maybe you should keep the alumn flywheel, and just change pressure plate and clutch disk and throw out bearing. If only you were in NC, I would be more then willing to give you a hand, clutch replacement is a viper is a complete BREEZE, if you have a car lift, and a tranny jack (for which I have both).
