Would it be practical, and make sense performance-wise, to give a '99 RT-10 side pipes while keeping the existing rear exhaust?

I want to mod a '99 so it has Gen I side pipes, but I got to thinking that if I kept the rear exhaust, it would have twice the breathing room without sacrificing looks. It's not as if the rear exhaust looks shabby (though still not as good as side pipes).

Are there headers out there that would allow this, and if not, would the coversion be relatively easy for someone who regularly works on exhaust?

Most importantly, would it be beneficial for performance?

Thanks.

Not very pratical and I believe it is pretty expensive. I saw a 2001 with the side exhaust system instead of the rear exhaust but unless you REALLY want it, it is not that worth it.

lots of added weight too.

I think it would look kind of funny... I don't think it would give you any more flow because your engine will only flow as much as the bottleneck will allow. The bottleneck would be your collectors (right after the headers)
