I have started to become annoyed with this "feature" and thought I'd get it done finally. I've searched the archives as well as the Illustrated Upgrades section on the VCA homepage. Here's the dilemma; there appear to be several conflicting reports so I am not sure which is the right approach.

1) The VCA description just states to disconnect the solenoid plug-in wires and tape them over.
2) Other posts suggest unscrewing the solenoid and placing a plug. Not sure what the advantages over #1 would be and sounds messier.
3) Reports of check engine light coming on -- is this true? Is it dependent on which approach you take?
4) Reports of a cheap resistor being wired in somewhere. I assume this is to get rid of a check engine problem? Where is this wired in?
5) Availability of aftermarket delete kits $30-50 or so. I am not adverse to spending a little money to get a job done right, but why if any of the above are true?

Thanks

1.if you just disconnect it you will get a check engine light on 98 - 02 vipers.

2.dont do this

3.yes if its done wrong a check engine light will come on

4.its all in one eliminator

5.you can use one off a vette (thats what i have and it works properly)

its easier to just do it this way and more effective

just note that pain in the a$$ yellow arrow will still come on BUT you will be able to shift into second

Drive in 2nd in stop and go traffic. It does no harm. I've had friends drive my GTS in 3rd (thinking they were in 1st) and praise the acceleration.

I've never seen such an irritating "feature" of an auto before. Sometimes I like to use first gear just to get the car moving, and the skip shift comes on every time I do this. Starting in second is possible, yes, but it is ******* clutch. And going from first to fourth is near impossible, as car lugs badly, also damaging clutch.

Whoever invented skip shift for Vettes and Vipers needs to be hung by his thumbs outside AlGore's bathroom window for a week.

Will do the mod when I get time. Thanks for info.

The skip shift saved you a few hundred bucks in Gas Guzzler Tax......Moving from 10 to 11 in the EPA city rating. The real deal is to just let the engine rev a few more rpms in first or exceed 20mph. I never even notice the skip anymore.

I bought my conversion kit from JonB at Parts Rack. It was cheap, I forget how much, but there are no error codes and it works great. Sure, one can get along without it, but it sure makes driving simpler. I like it. It installed in 5 minutes, and is easier if you have the car on a lift. I went in to the oil change I use and put it in for free. :headbang:

Most of the time I do not notice it either. There are times, however, when it does come on and I hate it. I appreciate the responses but "drive faster, rev higher"? When I am trying to slip through my quiet neighborhood in the middle of the night, or am in stop-and-go traffic, I can't exactly do that, and that's when it comes on. I will go with an aftermarket variety, unless someone can tell me exactly how to wire the resistor.

Thanks

Disconnect the solenoid. Put electrical tape over the connector on the solenoid. On the other end stick a 2.2k 1/2 watt resistor into the connector. Cover with electrical tape and zip-tie it up out of the way. 25 cents and no check engine light.

Just installed my 'anti-skip shifter' from 'yes' a corvette after market dealer,
(don't tell anybody where you bought it!) but it works. I tryed to warm-up to the skip shift but no. This is the safe and sure answer.
