Any thoughts on how to repair this? First I thought maybe drilling two countersunk holes through the small piece into the big piece, and tapping the big piece..... but the small piece is pretty thin.

Most of the time, that just becomes a parts top. If you need a good used top I have several

Sure, text me a few pics of it, including the locking mechanism as I understand it has been revised over the years.

So I had John Temple repair a top for me that had this problem. I was told through others who had him fix theirs, that they spent around $400. I never asked John what it would cost. $750 later I received my top back with the ears back on. However the whole top was completely disassembled and I then needed to take it to an upholstery shop to have it glued back together and the new arms (my old ones snapped) drilled and put on. Fun experience. With that being said Jason Barry in Dothan, Alabama, one of the owners of RRC Parts who is reproducing Gen 1 stanchions (unbelievable quality and strength) has started fixing tops like this and does one hell of a job. If you PM me I can give you his contact info. I wish I would have taken my top to him. The repair is not only way stronger but also way better looking than what John did to my rare vinyl 93 top.

If I was you, I would buy a top from 99RT10GTS (Mike) and have Jason fix your broken top. Just my two cents.

My brother fixed my top, Thank God he came up with a good solution here are the images of what he did. The other images did not load, but he put carbon fiber and fiberglass around everything and sanded it and painted it.

Awesome! Please keep me updated on how it holds up.

I am still sour about the $750 I spent to have mine fixed, only to get it back looking awful and completely disassembled. I just hope the upholstery shop bill isn't insane and that everything works as its supposed to.

Sick, exactly what I was thinking. What adhesive?
