Solid Motor Mounts- Opinions?

I would like to hear from anyone here who HAS solid mounts in their car. I am still on the fence about whether I am going to use solids or a new set of stockers- I would like to hear from anyone who has them how bad the vibrations are, and if any other damage has been caused by them.

The car vibrates enough as is, I cannot even imagine it with solid mounts. must tickle your butt and hands and skip CD's at the very least.

Let us know your experience if you decide to go ahead.

if you put solids on, then you have to get a copy of the beach boys cd and play "good vibrations" while youre driving

I presume you are having some extra engine movement. I am experiencing that also as the throttle body cable bracket rubs the hood pad during accels. I have contemplated getting the comp coupe trans mount to reduce some of the movement and to reduce the wheel hop tendency.

This is actually for a big-HP car that is going together at this moment. This car even when making 600 HP was able to move teh mounts enough to dent up their heat shields... and they werent even broken. I already have a CC trans mount to use as well, but the engine movement needs to be cut down too. I stumbled accross a Woodhouse product that is not a solid mount, but has internal catches to prevent a certain amount of movement... I may look into thise next week. They are for a Gen-2, so I will have to look at modding them for use in an SRT, as the motor-side stud is longer for the SRT.

For my previous Gen2 I made a mount plate that all but totally eliminates any engine rise. I'm not familiar with the Gen3 though.

I posted about it a few months ago-only got one comment...

Maybe you could do something similar and not have to go with solid mmounts?

We are currently fabricating new mounts out of hard urethane to replace the stock mounts for this reason. We have tested them with great success on our race cars and will be offering them to the public shortly. If you are interested Email me at [email protected] and I will get you on the list. These seem to be a great compromise between the factory and the harsh solid mounts.

I had a solid motor mount on my GTS for a short while. It was an accessory provided by SVS with their header package. It worked as advertised. It made for amazing throttle response. Could easily break rear end loose just with throttle in lower gears.

However it was totally unacceptable for the street. Car became much louder, and you could feel every pulse of the engine.
Easy to unbolt and remove. Maybe OK for a race car, but for a street car...no way.

You could just get this bolt on strap from SVSi to try it out. Not a replacement for rubber mounts, but bolts engine to frame securely. On and off in just a couple minutes if you have a lift.

Contact Kevin Singleton at Exotic Engine, Murietta CA. He has a really slick bracket set up that bolts to the front of the engine block that help tie the engine down.

It seems that solid motor mounts can and do distort the cylinder that they attach to (number 3, I think). Be careful.

This sounds like the answer to the engine movement problem. I already installed the CC mount and there was a huge difference. Let me know when these are ready.
