Re: Speed World Challenge Road Atlanta LIVE TODAY 3PM CENTRAL TIME

Chuck is correct, but it will be nice to see the race on the same day it is run, even if it is tape delayed. It will be a tough race for the Vipers as SCCA has determined to penalize the Comp Coupes even more for Tommy's wins. Consequently , most of the Vipers are gridded in the bottom half, with Tommy the only Snake in the top ten of qualifying.

3R Racing Qualifies Sixth, Eleventh and Sixteenth at Road Atlanta

Braselton, Georgia - 3R Racing drivers qualified sixth, eleventh and sixteenth for round three of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed World Challenge GT series race to be run at Road Atlanta tomorrow morning. Tommy Archer, the winner of the first two races, qualified sixth, teammate Phil McClure will start eleventh and team owner/driver Tim Wiens will go away sixteenth.

Prior to Road Atlanta, the SCCA rule makers added an additional 100 pounds to the Vipers base weight and an additional 5% air restriction. The minimum weight for the Viper is now 3,300 lbs. and is required to run a 50% air restrictor.

On top of the 100 lbs. mandated by SCCA and the additional 150 lbs., 75 for his win at Sebring and 75 for the victory at St. Petersburg, Tommy Archer is carrying the equivalent of A.J. Foyt in the passenger seat of his number 1/c3controls/3R Viper. Still the Minnesota resident managed to qualify in sixth position with a time of 1:27.595 and a speed of 104 mph. "I figured I would be about seventh," said Archer. "We have the car handling really good and we were able to improve on our practice time. The track has come in and there is a lot of grip due to all of the classes running and the cool temperatures. The added weight really affects the car, especially laterally as I head toward the apex. It is hard to hold the car on line at speed, during the race this will be a big issue on tire wear."

Phil McClure, driving the number 2/FirstTier Bank/3R Viper, will start from the fifth row tomorrow based on his qualifying time of 1:28.400. "My time was 1.1-seconds faster than we practiced. I am getting killed on the straits and the weight is really playing a role in the corners, especially in the transitions. I will have to be careful in the race not to use up the tires too early getting to the front. Last year I qualified here on the outside pole with a time of 1:27.9, the field is really fast this year."

Tim Wiens posted a qualifying time of 1:29.250 in his number 3/FirstTier Bank/3R Viper and will go away tomorrow from the eighth row. "I struggled in qualifying. I had a hard time getting a clean lap and then I came in to cool the tires and went back and ran out of time. I am disappointed in my qualifying effort; this just ups the motivation for the race tomorrow. Bob Raub and the 3R team have done an excellent job keeping on top of the cars with the schedule that we have had the past couple of weeks. The extra 100-pounds also is a burden on the team. With no time to test we have to make all of our adjustments to the weight during the race weekend."

Round three of the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GT series will start tomorrow, Sunday, at 8:55 a.m. and will be televised on the same day on Speed Channel at 1:00 p.m. EST.

Re: Speed World Challenge Road Atlanta

It's probably Liddell's time to win.

I still expect a podium from Archer and I know the other Vipers will show well.
