Strange Noise when starting the car??

Hi all,

I've noticed some strange noise when I started the car from a cold engine. The noise sounds something like a cracking or cranking noise. It didn't happen all the time, but occasionally. Is this normal or something is wrong? To think of it more carefully, I recalled the noise is coming from somewhere under the gearbox if i'm right. Anyone experience the same??
