Does anyone have any good info on the strength / durability / limitations of the new cracked cap powdered metal rods in our 04 + Vipers?

It seems DC started the Viper out with a forged steel crank, rods and pistons.

In about 2000, DC went to cast pistons, but kept the forged crank and rods. These engines became affectionately called "cream puffs".

Somewhere in 2004, DC quietly kept the cast pistons and went to powdered metal rods (LS1's use powdered metal rods) but kept the forged crank.

Are we now getting a "super cream puff" engine? Is there any good reason for DC to go to these rods other than cost savings? Does the comp coupe have these rods? Should we be super charging / turbo charging these engines without new internals?

Looking for the Wizard or any tuners out there to comment / add some light to this.

Concerned,

Dan
