I contacted DC via email regarding some quality issues with my SRT-10, and they said to talk to the selling dealer, which I already did. I think the best thing to do is talk to Team Viper - how do I contact them?

Passing the old buck are they? Sounds like the Vette is not the only car with quality problems. Good luck though.

Yeah but the customer service rep. probably does not know that us Viper folks usually get treated a bit better.

Just some wheel & paint issues ('05). I have issues on my past 3 and they were taken care of...we'll see this time.

I sent an email through the "Customer Assistance" link on the website. It took 12 days to get the canned response of take it to your dealer. I called and the operator asked for my zip code and read me the dealers in my area. I was transfered to the SRT department and left 3 messages for SRT to have no one return my call. I had an issue that I needed assitance on and am not the type to air dirty laundry online. It is this exact type of service that makes me question ever owning a Daimler product again. I would challenge them to contact my company's warranty/service department to see what the definition of Service is. If SRT would like to contact me my email is on my account but I will not speak of the issue online.

Hmmm, maybe you can vent this evening between 6 & 8 EST...you do not have to get specific if you just want to find out how to talk to someone who might be able to help.

Here is what I posted last night Fred:

I have owned 3 Vipers in the past (’94, ’95, & ’97) albeit I bought them all used; however, I bought a new/untitled 2005 SRT-10 on five days ago from Abernethy Dodge in Lincolnton NC (I live in Palm Coast FL).

When I took delivery I looked the car over and found that every wheel except for the driver’s side rear had marks on it, which appear to be from when they were originally mounted. The marks are along the edges by the tires but the tires are perfect. I brought this to the owner’s attention and he had not noticed them but said that if he had he would have had DC replace them - he told me to contact DC, which I did, and they told me to contact the selling dealer! Also, when I got the car home, I stripped off the wax and rewaxed it; I then noticed that the driver’s side rear bumper and area around the backup light was not cleared coated (rough/dull surface).

I am not sure how these quality problems allowed the car to be released in the first place. I would think that someone from the Viper area at DC would like to see what I am talking about and I would be willing to meet with someone (Zone Rep., etc.) at a Dodge Dealer close to me in Palm Coast FL. I could also send someone pictures if that was not possible. However, when I had my ’97 Viper, there were problems on the windshield frame and several DC reps. came to MD (where I used to live) in order to see the problem and subsequently correct the problems.

Thanks for your time,

I have purchased five new Vipers 96 to 2003 All were perfect! I doubt your car left the factory with mentioned flaws. Sounds like dealer damage. The finish is inspected many times before being released. I do not know of a car with a better finish at any price?

These issues are dealer issues that they should be corrected by the dealer.

I beg to differ - you would have to see what I am talking about to be able to make that last statement. But that is your opinion and your are free to voice it. And just because yours have been perfect it does not mean that everyone else's are...many others have posted here over the years about quality problems! Needless to say, when the pictures and details are requested by the SRT Engineers I am sure they will agree.

Finally, I still bought the car; I don't want to give anyone the impression that the overall quality is crappy. If I believed that I would not be on my 4th Viper.

Respectively...Bob Z. (viperbob)

I would have to agree partially with Fred, as rim damage is likely the Dealer's cause. We get around 100 Vipers a year, and the quality has soared over the past few years. We have an extremely low claim rate and find that most damage is minor. It is the Dealer's responsibility to check over the cars very carefully when the vehicle comes in, and if not noted then, Chrysler is no longer liable. Most Dealers let folks test drive Vipers, do not warn them where to park, put them on showrooms unguarded , etc. and it is becoming more apparent that most damage occurs at the Franchises and not from DC. I would sure suggest you take your case to the General Manager , as it is very apparent in this situation that the Dealer is responsible.

Sincerely,
Bill Pemberton

These problems are what I would consider minor - I would not have bought it otherwise. However, if you saw what I am talking about I think you'd agree since the tires are perfect and the marks on the wheels appear to be from when the tires were mounted. I guess the dealer could have replaced all of the tires but that is unlikely in my opinion. As far as the lacking clearcoat on the rear fascia, I would not have noticed it had I now stripped off the old wax and put new stuff on. And I also discovered that the passenger's side rollbar/hoop it raised slightly on the side closest to the center of the car - you can see shiny metal at the bottom where you cannot on the driver's side rollbar/hoop. Put all those things together and it looks like whoever did the quality check on the car was half asleep, or ready to retire.

Bob all manufactures(cars, computers, cell phones, etc) have some quality problems, no one is perfect.

I have taken two tours through CAAP, the most recent last year. Have visited the plant that paints and polishes every panel of the Viper. The panels leave there perfect. There are inspectors at CAAP that do a final inspection as well as the Reliable drivers who inspect the cars before accepting them for loading. There is a chain of body inspection to the dealer. After that is where body damage occurs. Regarding the wheels rubber is very pliable Aluminum is not. A slight curb brush will not show on the tire but will on the wheel. Been there don that to my own cars.

CAAP is a very good assembly operation. Quality is number one to their employees. They do not need to be blamed for somthing that is not theri doing.
