Test Starter

Is there a way to test the starter underload?Loacal auto parts store say no can do.
Anyone have a used gen1 or 2 starter they are looking to part with before I call Chuck

Disable the clutch safety switch and crank with transmission in gear. It should move the car (lurch, actually.)
