This summer heat!

Ok, so I've been bonding really well with the Viper over the last 7 months. Never had any major problems, and didn't even mind all the quirks that some people say make it unfit for "daily driving". That is, until the summer heat hit! I knew this was coming but didn't know just how roasty that cockpit could get in the high desert. My question is this: will high flow cats make the temperature reasonable again? It seems the heat is coming in from both the side sills and the firewall. If the cats are producing the majority of the heat entering the cabin, then I would be willing to make the investment just to get through the summer! I know driving with the A/C on all the time is another option - but I like the windows down

Wow, it sounds like you have a delima. Windows down in the desert would NEVER work for me unless it was night time and then it is too cold for the most part.

The high flow cats will do the job of cooling down the side sills. Your side sills get HOTTT as you probably already know and the high flows will make a NOTICEABLE difference. I think you are still going to need A/C in the desert.

Yep, high flow cats and some good aftermarket mufflers will make a world of difference.
I speak from experience, my desert dwelling friend.

I had the Roe Racing cats and just removed the mufflers on my car, but Jay(ohiodoc) has cats/dynomax mufflers, and reports his side sills are much cooler as well.

I've had stock cats, no cats, and then went to hi-flows. Hi-flows are definitely better than stock, but no cats wins hands down in the cool sills category...

I'm not just talking a few degrees either... with no cats, the sills were cool to the touch. Hi flows are no longer "egg frying" hot, but are still hot IMHO.

Besides the other fine options and suggests they gave you, another one I would suggest is to change out your cowl. I changed my cowl and exhaust out over the winter and so far it has worked very well for me (I now live in Florida). The cowl expels a lot of under-hood heat. Or, as others have suggest you can also cut a hole under your other "speaker" grill. I've heard it works, but so far (personally) I'm not sure I want to go that far yet. Good luck.

I've been wanting to open up that other speaker - I feel like the audio has been unbalanced since day one! On a serious note, I'd love to take out the cats altogether but we have emissions tests here I'm gonna start looking into the hi-flows soon. Thanks for the info guys.
