Let me preface my remarks by saying that I've always dealt with Tire Rack in the past and have always been satisfied with their service and prices. I know too that they're a sponsor of this board and appreciate their support of the Viper community.
Recently, I noted that the wear bars on my rear tires were even with the adjacent tread. I priced new run flat Pilot Sports at Tire Rack and the tires themselves would have cost $870. Shipping would have been an additional $63. Mounting and balancing would have been at least another $20. Doing my math, I figured a total cost of approximately $953.
On a whim, I went to my local tire guy to see what he would charge. To my surprise, he quoted me a price of $890 mounted and balanced. I had them installed today. The 2 guys worked like crazy to mount them very carefully avoiding any scratches on the wheels, so I gave them a $10 tip.
As I said earlier I'm not trying to discourage anyone from buying from Tire Rack, but I learned that it may be possible to deal with a local facility and save a few $$$$.
