The engine wouldn't crank if the clutch switch was broken. Was it parked for a while? I wonder if rodents chewed a wire or built a nest somewhere?
Does it display a check engine light? If so, try to get the code. Do lights flash on the information cluster while you are cranking it?
Did the alarm go off one day while you weren't around? If you have the factory alarm, then it will immobilize the car rendering it impossible to start. This is implemented a few different ways by different manufacturers. Some will allow the car to crank all day but not start. Others will beep at you and refuse to do anything useful. Try turning the alarm off. According to the manual, it will stop honking after three minutes. I can't remember how long it will flash the lights though. It's worth a shot.
Good luck!
