If you are going fishing...would you bring the fish only 3/4 of the way up?? I did my entire system at once and was very happy 3" from block to back....

I'd recommend calling JonB at the Parts Rack (site sponsor). I spent over a half hour on the phone with him reviewing all of the options. I decided to do K&N with smooth tubes and a belanger cat back exhaust, so I went just part of the exhaust first. I'll see how I like this setup & then I can move to the belanger headers, built to go with the catback, whenever I want (& have the extra $). JonB said belanger specs 50 hp with the header & catback installed, that would make me very happy - I'll see.

But, I'd talk to him, great info.

Dave.

How much money can you spend is the question? Sean Roe sells a cat-included side exhaust kit with Borla mufflers for a very resonable price. Sounds great and install is fairly simple.(some pipe cutting/no welding). Do the headers at the same time if you can. You might save a little labor time if you do them at the same time. dj

Be aware that an '00 car will NOT gain 50 HP with headers and catback. The '00-'01 cam is a bit milder than previous years', and a typical gain for headers/catback/high-flow cats/smooth tubes is 30-35 RWHP and 40-45 ft/lbs on '00+ cars. '99 and previous Vipers seem to pick up more like 40-50 RWHP with these mods.

Also be aware that you'll eventually get a 'check engine' light if you run the stock ECU with headers on a '00+ car, even if you keep the stock cats. Budget for O2 sims and/or a MOPAR ECU.

Gen 1 engines respond to headers very well in the 2,200 to 5,000 RPM range. For "spirited" driving, I recommend headers. For "cruising", the stock manifolds with a high flow side exhaust should do the trick. Both upgrades sound a ton better than the stock setup.
Headers with cat-back side exhaust is $2149 from us. Or if your budget is about $3,000, see my post in the suppliers specials section.
Compared to stock, you bascically can't go wrong no matter which you choose. Just enjoy it

Im going to upgrade the exhaust system and since I am doing it, I thought maybe I should do the headers too. Only mods I have are smoth tubes and filters, will it be worth it to do the headers or should I just stick with a complete exhaust upgrade including high flow cats? Thanks in advance.
