I wouldn't use that type that goes in the filter. There are the Magvest type that go on the outside of the filter if you are into those type of things.
I would think a premium filter like a Mobil 1 and regular oil changes would be just as beneficial.

A strong magnet (preferably, neodymium) on the outside of the filter works just fine and you can reuse it.

Look at the four claims that they make, listed on the right side picture.

How could it do any of those things?

The wear claim is the only one that makes any sense, but
what would "8 to 14 times reduction in engine wear" mean? The engine would last 8 to 14 times as long?

I do think it's a good idea to have a magnet. I like the outside the filter type. Seems like free insurance against circulating iron or steel particles.

I'm wondering why some oil filter company doesn't attach a magnet as a marketing gimmick.

A magnetic plug would be beneficial because when you pulled the plug you could examine it for metal shavings and you'd know you have a problem. But a magnet attached to the filter isn't going to show you anything.

My '94 has a magnetic plug, isn't that OEM? The dirty oil enters through the small holes, is trapped on the outside of the filter media, and clean oil exits through the middle. Putting the magnet in the middle hole - there is only a thin mesh in there for the magnet to hold on to, wouldn't be too pretty if it jarred loose and tried to make it into the engine.

really good point Joe117 :)

just who will do it, but it looks that the magnet really works by "catching metal shavings" which is great, this metal shaving exist. but does it exist in regular filter oil change ? who knows
