Perhaps, but I'll try to move the set together first. Stay tuned.

what kind of gains do you get from vec 1 and what is the difference in using either vec 1 or vec 2..I guess what Im asking is why would one use one of the other and what are the advantages of one vs two?

They both help you control your ECU,the Vec2 is just much more advanced and robust.

Vec2 is better, but costs a good bit more. Vec1 is good if you are not doing any heavy mods.

Get a Vec2 if you got the scratch.

With headers and 3" exhaust, I got 14HP and 20 more pounds of torque. It was me tuning from a SOTP and following the instructions in the VEC1 book. As I understand it, the VEC1 will only tune within the parameters of the stock PCM program. It will allow you to push the boundary, so to speak, but not exceed the limits of the factory program. On our car, there was a lot of popping/crackling on deceleration with the factory set up. The Dodge dealer said they couldn't change anything because everything was running within their guidelines, albeit a little rich. The VEC1 totally took the popping and cracking out on deceleration. .....The popping is just raw gas going out the back end. I'm assuming this is where my extra power came from.

With only intake and catless exhaust, I leaned out the A/F about 15% and picked up 20hp/20tq to the wheels with the vec1

I picked up 24 or so rwhp with the VEC1 on 93 octane.

Now that I moved to lovely California, I get detonation with those settings on the 91 octane....

Anyone have any good solutions?

Results vary as indicated on the thread. I think 15-20 RW is a good estimate. Driveability and smoothness can also also be positively impacted as noted.

I've added heads/cam/rockers/exhaust etc which require the more deliberate tuning features of the VEC 2.

The reason to buy a VEC 1 is price....if you have minor mods. VEC 2 = $1000 plus up to 500 bucks to install, and $$$for dyno time to tune. VEC 1 = $200, much easier to install (DIY) and most of the tuning can be done on an open county road from behind the wheel!

Yessirrr

With the help from Scotty, got the A/F on motor dead on with only one pull...then only one pull with the nitrous...A/F was perfect on that too :2tu:

Then the first time at the track with the wet setup I hit 10s...every run!
