Re: Video link

So, on the previous turn, the brakes were fine, then going into this turn at full speed, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING? No visible pumping of the pedal, no partial brakes, not even a little dive of the front end, just flat a*s NOTHING? If the brakes were getting hot, wouldn't they fade gradually? Or at least have shown some signs of fade before the next turn? You don't head in full speed if the brakes are fading. That means they were fine a turn ago.

Maybe some dirt got in just the right place to prevent pressure from the master cylinder to go to all four of the slave cylinders. Or all the fluid leaked out at once, after striking a rock on the straight.

Re: Video link

That was an old video (I think it was in 2001) posted by the driver, Sam Kelly while he was driving at Kershaw SC. Sean Roe was instructing and that is his voice that you hear. There wasn't anything Sam could have done. The good news was that they both walked away - the Viper wasn't so lucky...

I don't remember if they were ever able to determine the actual cause of the total brake failure, but it certainly underlines the importance of having the best safety equipment and practicing thorough and complete car maintenance - before, during, and after each event.

Re: Video link

That’s what scares me the most about running my car. Mainly because insurance doesn’t cover this stuff.

Insurance should cover this stuff. If it's a school it should be covered by your liability insurance. They tell you so in the handouts from the schools.

Re: Video link

One of the Viperdays regulars, Jon Belinke, came up with an insurance package that addressed the type of catastrophic loss that can sometimes occur at a track event. VRL racer, Russ Oasis had the insurance and found a need for it after he had an accident at VOI. His car was fixed and ready for the next event.

You might contact Viperdays or one of the other individuals for more information.
