Let me begin by saying I have used search and have gotten bits and pieces of what I need, but my question is "what components can I buy that are just plug ins to the current system and would require no cutting, rearranging etc." I do want to upgrade my audio system but in the simplist way possible. I fully adhere to the "KISS" philosophy. Let me hear from you. Thanks Randy :usa:

Hey Randy. There are not any pieces that will just plug into what you have, although you can use much of the factory wiring and upgrade the components to something that is much more flexable.

The alpine CDM series is a direct plug in to te factory wiring harness for the head unit. Although the factory setup uses a DIN style (cd changer type) cable that goes from the head unit to the factory amp sending both signal and power. You can easily cut off this end in the trunk) and splice in all new cables to supply the new amp.

If you plan to go back to stock, this cable can be easily replaced.

Once you supply power to the amp from this cable, you can splice into the cables that go to the speaker locations for a clean install. The only other cables you have to run is a set of RCAs from the head to the new amp. I opted for a 3 channel amp so I can power all 4 speakers and a sub.

Excellent! Do you have any pics of your sub location? Was there a big difference in the performance of your audio system?

I have been playing around with different subs but it is hard to get a good sound in my car. I may make a fibreglass enclosure but I got side tracked with my S/C install.

Now that it is done - the car is with Scott at elite getting some good internals so I can boost it up. It should be close to done by the time I move back to Ohio.

The stereo does sound alot better. I did eclipse speakers in the front and bostons in the back. The good thing about the components (amp and Head unit) I used is they are very flexable. I am not a big fan of EQ, but its a must in the viper because its such a horrible sound chamber. The front speakers are by my calves and the rears are behind 15+ gallons of liquid which does not help.

Upgrading the components did improve the sound many times over and I kept a factory appearence.

I was asking the exact same question about 2 months ago. I wanted somthing really simple but that sounded decent. I went with Alpine 7995 MP3 headunit on sale at Crutchfield and rockford fosgate fanatics speakers (6" components in the front and 6.5" in the back). We also installed Punch 300 and 500 to power the speakers and one 10" JL ProWedge. They were direct replacement and required drilling no new screw hole etc. I did the install with a friend and it took 2 days. The hardest part was running the wires for the amps and RCA's. These are not the best sounding speakers by any means but is an improvement over stock. If I had to it all over again, I would have just done the headunit and gotten a small 4 chnnl amp to power the stock speakers and add a new sub amp and a sub. The rear speakers are not even worth replacing b/c you can hardly hear them.
