Can someone that has some paint knowoledge with the Viper GTS blue paint on a 2006 Viper answer this?

If I was having a new hood replacement painted, would it be necessary to repaint the fenders and the nose of the car to feather in the paint so the new hood paint would match the fenders and nose? Or could the new hood just be painted on it's own?

If the car was a few years older that might be a problem but a new car I wouldn't worry about it. Auto paint doesn't alter that quickly. If left out in the sun everyday for 3 years maybe. Get the right paint code and make sure the hood is polished out to match the fenders and you are good to go!

With a good painter, you should not have to paint the fenders.

There should be no 'feathering' and masking in Viper painting. Viper bodies are not painted the same as the typical vehicle in that the body components are painted prior to assembly. That's why you'll never see painted fasteners holding on a body panel. A typical Viper is not constantly exposed to the elements (left in the weather) - therfore the paint is never weathered or oxidized and thus should be easily matched.

I once took my '96 to a local body shop to have the front fascia re-painted. I asked the advisor if they plan to remove the fascia. He told me no (claimed they'd painted Vipers previously) - they'd rather leave it in-tact. I then told him thanks, hopped in my car, and drove away.

I was given the story that the metallic in the blue paint stands up a little different and it may show if not done with feathering of the fenders and nose... It sounds like they are not telling the truth?

GTS-R 001 should know, I beleive he just painted one of his hoods on a B/W SRt, from pics it looked good. Like others said, shouldnt have a problem if a good painter does it and gets the factory paint code, and mixes it properly.

Finally got it !

I think that is a load of bunk..... Press red button ease into gear and head to the next body guy. If you want I have a guy local to me that has unfortunately brought six Vipers back to life for fellow members including myself. Darn moving trees. I could ask him if you like....

Allow me to state this again. For the record: "DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO PAINT YOUR VIPER WITH THE BODY PANELS IN-TACT. VIPERS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE PAINTED THIS WAY".:nono: Overspray, painted fasteners, masking lines, etc. will destroy the car's integrity.

Now, do I make myself clear?
