CHESAPEAKE
Two men whose car crashed and burst into flames on Interstate 664 this morning were taken to a hospital along with a man who stopped to help them.
The crash happened shortly before 1 a.m. near Bowers Hill, state police dispatchers confirmed.
The two men were in a Dodge Viper that left the road, hit a tree and caught fire, state police told WVEC-TV this morning. A tractor-trailer driver and another man spotted the flaming vehicle and stopped to help.
The tractor-trailer driver grabbed a fire extinguisher and kept the flames from spreading while the other man pulled the men out of the car, a trooper told the TV station.
The two men suffered injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening and were taken to a hospital, according to the station. The man who pulled them out of the vehicle also suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The tractor-trailer driver wasn’t injured.
No other details about the crash were available shortly after 5 a.m.

CHESAPEAKE - A car crash resulted in an explosion on Interstate 664 near the Bowers Hill exit in Chesapeake early Friday morning.
Braving a wall of flames, a pair of good Samaritans rushed to rescue two men whose car was quickly becoming an inferno.
Police say if they had not been there to help out, someone could have died.

Witnesses told police the 2009 Dodge Viper was going over 100 miles an hour down I-664 around 12:45 am Friday morning when the driver lost control, skidded off the interstate, and plowed into a tree.
A tractor trailer driver stopped to help out, grabbing his fire extinguisher and hosing down the burning car.
Another motorist helped free the driver who was trapped in the car.
"The tractor trailer driver grabbed his fire extinguisher while the good Samaritan tried to pull one of the individuals in the car out,” said Trooper Sherrod Covil of the Virginia State Police.
Police are calling these men heroes.
"One guy was trying to pull him out while the guy with the fire extinguisher was keeping the flames down,” said Trooper Covil.
The men in the Viper were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with burns and lacerations.
The truck driver was not hurt, and went on his way.
The other good Samaritan was taken to Chesapeake general hospital with minor cuts.
Police say the driver of the Viper faces reckless driving charges, and perhaps others.

Totally *****, and I hope everyone is OK, BUT it does sound like there was significant stupidity involved. The true blessing is that they didn't kill any innocent bystanders.
