Michelin might have stepped up their sponsorship, but it still costs about $900.00 to race.

I looked it up. Cost is $665.00 with a discount for first timer. I am excluded from any discounts. I was even excluded when they had a 1/2 price sale on events. So you take the $665 ad a test day on friday say $250, then since i would rather race it's another $150, i got $1,065.00 into a race weekend. I don't make the $$$$ that some do. Yes i have an expensive hobby, yes i drive vipers, but 1 of the Viper Days weekends costs avg. $ 7500.00 - 10000.00 depending on where it is located. I know that VD's ********* guys will come back with, Track time, lots of Track time, people are great, there is help anytime you need it, there are even companies there that will do the work on your car, install new parts for you, ect...And i'll agree wtih you 100%, I'm not going to debate any of this with you all, Viper Days is great for some, not for others. So now i choose to race in other sanactioning bodies, become an instructor (get free track time & races) and still get the thrill of racing against cars in my class, at a considerable cost that is far less than Viper Days.

Frank,
We ran the VRL for the first time this year. Granted, we are on a budget - and don't have "paid crew" (although I am thinking about billing Henry formally this year...;)) and even with event fees and tires, transportation and lodging, we are looking at about $4500 per weekend - and that includes EVERYTHING - food, fuel for both the truck and the trailer, lodging, incidentals, car maintenance / fluids. For the track time, the atmosphere and the no contact rules, it's a much better deal than most other race events.

Don't even get me started on SCCA weekends. Road Atlanta over Labor Day would have been $600 instead of $900 (for a double event) and it would have been about a total of 3 hours track time spread over 4 DAYS - I cannot stand the 1/2 hour per day... compared to the 8 hours for Viper Days. Event prices are really not the cost drivers for racers - you know that.

And instructors are always needed - you might be able to help offset costs by doing that, too, although we have found that racing at ViperDays, because you get so much track time, makes instructing difficult.

Why do you have to have to post a negative comment any time ViperDays is mentioned? You posted a relavent item about Michelin and sponsorship, and them felt it necessary to throw in a zinger.

Going out to a local club event and kicking everyone *ss in a CC or GT1 car is fun, forrrr 2 laps? --> then what? AND ALL FOR $199.99

Going out and racing against all the same CC'S or GT1 cars --> Priceless

First of all, the Michelin Challenge Series is not a race. And yes it does cost more to go to the same weekend and enter the VRL race which is run on Hoosier tires. But as most people who have competed know, the entry fee is the cheapest part of the weekend. Transportation, lodging, tires, and fuel always dwarf the entry fee no matter what series you compete in.

People like Viperdays for all of the reasons you mentioned Frank, and if you have carved out a nice arrangement for yourself with SCCA, God bless you, but don't brag about it and try to bash Viperdays - your argument is very weak.

Rich...I doubt i will ever see my grill again from Howie Frank.

Janni....In my first post i didn't mean to be a zinger. I was stating what it would cost to race in the Viper Racing League. If i offended anyone by that comment i am sorry. But is is the truth.

My 2nd post I agree'd before anyone could even bring up how great Viper Days is...I agreed 100%, before anyone could come back with Track Time, The People, and everything else. So i put that part to rest before anyone could come back with it. I also stated that Viper Days is great for some but not for others.

What did you mean by:"Event prices are really not the cost drivers for races"? If you mean alot more $$$ goes into the car as far as time & prepardness i agree, i do not dispute this at all.

I'll go on record stating that Viper Days is Great. Everyone that attends Loves it. Skip, Courtney, Tracey and anyone else that works for Viper Days does 1 hell of a JOB. Do i miss it? Yes i do. But for what a weekend of racing costs with Viper Days vs other events i no longer choose to attend.

I've tried to attend Viper Days in the past. When they had special pricing I called to reserve my spot, only to be told that special pricing is only for first timers. Will i race my "Green Meanie" or my Comp Coupe with Viper Days? Who knows, things change, they do not always stay the same.
Would i attend as an instructor? I've never been asked.

I don't recall any negative posts i've made about Viper Days. If i did could you please email me those posts, i'll re-read them.
