Many of you heard about the Viper related death that occurred late Saturday night here in Las Vegas. We suspect that the Viper was from one of the local exotic rental car places here, but if it was a fellow Viper owner let us know. Early details on the local television news were incorrect, placing a female in the passenger seat. However, the news video did reveal that the car was a red SRT-10 convertible that landed upside down.

No doubt the "sport hoops" behind the seats on those cars failed to provide any safety. For those of you with an SRT-10 convertible this should serve as a warning to get a roll bar of some type installed on the car for your own safety. The "sport hoops" are only for show and not for occupant safety per a warning sticker that Dodge places on the car.

The details of the incident hit the Review-Journal this morning. I've typed in the article below for those of you who may have missed it. Apparently, the author of the piece likes the phrase "police said" as it is used at the end of every sentence.

The Nevada Region of the Viper Club of America passes on its thoughts and prayers to the family of the deceased.

Texan killed when car crashes into wall
A 25-year-old motorist died early Sunday when he crashed a 2003 Dodge Viper into a concrete wall on Dean Martin Drive near the Las Vegas Beltway, police said.

The wreck happened about 1:15 a.m. just south of Capovilla Avenue, Las Vegas police said. Evidence indicated that the sports car was traveling at a high rate of speed and that the driver lost control on the road slick with rain, police said.

The driver, indentified as Marc Dustin Choate of Lewisville, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. A passenger in the vehicle, 28-year-old Charles Murphy, was taken to the hospital and treated for moderate injuries, police said.

They're not designed to.

But the Viper is apparently very safe..."A passenger in the vehicle was taken to the hospital and treated for moderate injuries"

In fact, it appears the only thing that would make it safer is govenors on the gas pedal.
