Same goes for Rhetta Abshire from Houston area. Made the deal after loooong negotiations and never followed through with the deal. I believe in the end she couldn't get financed. BEWARE of the tirekickers!

That's part of the buying and selling game. If you do NOT want to put up with the hassle, sell your car to a dealer and that is what they are paid for. But if want to get top dollar out of your car, you are the one that is going to have to deal with the people, calling, negotiating, not following thru, collecting tax, if any, paperwork, etc.

I had mine on consignment at a dealer. I still had the anxiety of waiting for the sale and had to end up talking to the customer to answer LOTS of questions for her amusement I guess.
Everything was agreed upon and she left to go get some paperwork and never came back. This was after 2 weeks of flogging on her part! Oh,well. I'll keep my '99 and start the upgrade process!

I have given test rides for dealers......and test rides for fellow sellers.....I ask the "tirekicker" for a $25-$50 tax deductible check made to Make A Wish or Shriner's Hospital in exchange for a "meanigful test ride."

If they WONT pay $25 tax-deductible, they WON'T buy a Viper...but I have had several pay $50 - $200! and buy a car.

That's a great idea Jon! If they're really serious that amount won't hurt them anyway and it benefits charity. Cool idea!

When I sold my Porsche TT about 2 years ago I had my office manager screen the phone calls. There were about 5 a day. If she thought they might actually buy the car she put them through to me. This resulted in about 1 or 2 contacts a day. I would usually spend about 20 minutes on a phone call. It seemed a lot of people out there were just sort of dreaming. I was on the phone to an ER doctor and half way through the conversation he went "oh my god" and ran off to a code or something. I never heard from him again.

If you really enjoy talking to people about cars and performance it really is not that terrible selling a car yourself. If you find yourself getting inpatient quickly it can be kind of frustrating.

I read an article by Ken Keyes down in Austin and I think he said most Porsche owners spent over 6 months looking at cars before they bought one. I think his ratio was about 20 calls for each sale.

Thats the problem with trying to sell any high performance car, some people are just dreamers who just want a close up view, ride,or just talk,I don't fault them for it,but they should just be up front with it.

Dear Cheers (?),
Did someone above use your name? It is hard to know when you didn't bother to use it! How quick we are to sue. I guess I never trust anyone who posts a message and doesn't bother to use their name. Kind of like an unsigned check. Worthless....
