If you get a whole new transmission put in, do they have to unbolt the gear shift? Because my gear shift I noticed was loose awhile back, then just today I thought I'd pull up on it to see how loose it is. The whole gear shift pulled out of the console. I had to pull over and put it back in. And is it ok to drive like this as long as you don't pull up?

EGADS, Matt! It's never ok to drive with a gear shift lever loose, unless it's absolutely necessary to a) get you home or b) pull off somewhere it's safe to park until a tow truck can get you.

Matt, It now sounds like that the rubber bushing on the shifter is gone. If the lock nut is tight to your shift knob and the looseness is below that it may be the Isolater on the linkage. Part #4709410 MSRP $197. If you not sure give me a call Matt!
