Wannabe Viper Owner with GTS Questions

Hi Everyone,
After 30 yrs of Vette ownership (8) which includes 3 ZR1s and a few imports 2 300ZX TTs 1 944 I have decided I want something different..Iam now very excited to be looking to buy my first VIPER... I have narrowed it down to the GTS model 01-02...Yellow as first color choice...I have many questions but the biggest is what major differances are their between those two years that I should be concerened about? Is the 02 worth paying more for if color,condition and mileage are equal..? I tried a search but couldnt come up with anything so forgive me if this question has been asked a million times. Iam trying to read and find out as much as I can about the Viper so when I do go to look at one I will know what to look for...Any information forum members can give me will be helpful..Need to know the good and the bad if any,lol...This forum looks like fun and I hope one day to contribute to it....Thanks in advance to ANY and ALL answers to my questions...Kevin

I don't think there are any differences between the 01 and 02. There was some talk of the ABS being different, but it was supposed to just be a part# change..

All recalls were factory incorporated on the 01, like the frame gussets. There are many differences as you go backwards in time, but by 01 and 02 it was all done.

If I am wrong, I'm sure someone will straighten me out!

I don't think there is any significant difference between those two years. Buy whichever color you like.

01 and 02 are the same. A few 01's had water pump problems, mine did not. Unlike vettes, Vipers come with few, if any, options. Depending on your wants, you may want to research the ACR option for the GTS. As stated, the earlier year GTS's had differences over the final two years. Some prefer the earlier cars, some the later. They both have advantages.

Good color choice. I'd recomend the yellow with black stripes. You might want to check on the recal mods when you're looking. Took mine in for it's 30,000 service and found out they hadn't been done. Also found out that the rear dif didn't have a drain so they had to tap and install plug. I was told '01s should already have a drain plug but mine didn't. Just something to check on.

I'd go with one of the, one year only colors, Saphire or Graphite. Once you own a Viper, you'll never go back.

Thanks for the replys everyone...I will soon(In about 1.5 months be the proud owner of an 01 Bumblebee GTS w/only 1,700 miles.It will be my first Viper but from what I see on this forum I will not want for another Corvette,lol..Iam sending out a deposit today and pending an inspection will have it shipped to me between the end of April, first half of May....Iam gussing I will have many more questions and hope to meet up with some owners in the Utah area....Kevin

I agree......as soon as I sell a little piece of land......(in about 60 days).......I willstepup my hunt. I am looking but not TOO hard......I hate it when I see "THE ONE" and can't pull the trigger.

Wherever I find that thing I am getting it ASAP.

Drove a 1966 Corvette home to Atlanta from St. Louis 2 years ago.......sweet.

color choices are the main difference btwn the 01's and 02's, think the guys covered that one
