Hello everyone, I finally had the chance to register to this wonderful site.

I was wondering if any of you viper owners have a problem with a red oil like residue on the front of the hood by the duct after washing the car. After I dry the car and drive it, it trickles all over the front where the bumper meets the hood.

I was thinking it could be the K&N air filter maybe getting wet, but the air filter box shows no signs. Looks like it could be coming from the hood drain on the tip of the hood.

Thank you, Joseph

Make sure it isn't power steering fluid!!
Check your cap. They tend to come loose on their own.
Loose cap means fluid could get onto your headers.
Fluid onto your headers means FIRE!
This is a must check on all Viper. Check to make sure the cap is tight everytime you lift the hood.

K&N oil sounds like the culprit to me, but you'd have to have a lot of excess! I really don't think power steering fluid would be spewing out of the NACA duct.

I checked the power steering cap and it's on tight with no signs of leaks.
It only happens after a wash, after a few days it's fine. I really think something got into the hood space from under the hood at the factory. (a cherry gum ball).I will try spraying water in the holes of the hood tonight after I wash it again. If you pop the hood you can see a tiny hole on the back side of the hood, it leaks out from there.
Thanks for the input.

I met one of our Michigan club members at a car show last week. He has a GREAT solution to the power steering cap coming lose. He is in the process of putting together a kit that he will be selling. Very good design - looks factory! Based on our conversations, it sounded like he will be offering this very soon. :usa:

Ok, good news! :)
I sprayed water into the holes under the hood and behold It's the red sea. :D
I continued until it was clear. Still have no clue what it could of been but it is gone.

My car has the typical smooth tubes/K&N Filter.
I have Belanger Headers, High flow cats, and a corsa exhaust sitting right behind me waiting to be installed. Problem is, I do not trust my Graphite Jem to anyone and thus this procrastination. I think I might have found someone, I really am looking forward to see how different the car will perform.

Thank you all for the inputs.

I would agree with Mahesh. I would suggest that you take the car to a Viper tech and have them check it out. That problem could possibly be serious. I know Buhler in EatonTown has a great Viper tech facility not to mention 2 or 3 Viper Tech's that are always there. Great people.

you definately cant go wrong with viper techs in the NJ/NY area. If there were ever a person to trust with your viper in this area, it would be tator, my tech at warnock dodge scott saurentino, or buhler. and that has pretty much all of jersey and southern? new york covered.

I live in Brielle. I purchased my Viper new from Buhler. I figured that the dealers would no be able to install these after-market pcs.
How long do you think it would take them to install?
Thanks,
Joseph

I dropped my car off in the morning to install a corsa, picked it up a few hours later. The corsa is a very straightforward system to install, can even be done by the inexperienced with the right tools. I dont know how long the headers will take to install, but the cats and exhaust can be done in a few hours. The next best person to install anything on your viper after yourself or another viper owner, are the viper techs. Dodge certified to work especially on our vipers.
