I ran..........

60' : 2.19
1/8 : 8.45
MPH : 89.57
1/4 : 12.76
MPH : 115.25

The temperature was 82-84, and humidity around 70%. How are you guys running low-mid 12's with 118-120 traps?
Anyone have any suggestions? Was it just the weather?

Thanks

Have you dynoed your car? I ran a 12.5 @4500ft elevation with Stock motor,k&N, VEC1, and no cats. I only ran @ 115MPH as well so I know you can get down there. What is your elevation there? YOu need to get your 60' time to 2.0 or faster and you will be there. Also, preload your shifts and get Tom BTR's race DVD.

Its all in the 60' time.

Every tenth you drop in 60 foot you pick up 2 tenths at the end of the track at least. Your 2.2 60 running a 12.8, would be a 11.8-12.0 with a 1.8 60.

Just practice the launching, most people seem to get the best results by dropping tire pressure to 22 or so, and doing a nice little burnout to get some heat into them.

I have to disagree. 115mph is NOT going to net you a 11.8-12.0 1/4 time. The 60' needs to come down, but 1.8 is pretty optimistic except for a prepped track and a really good launch. The other component is shifting more quickly which will gain 2-3mph in the 1/4. 115mph is never going to be good enough for a 12.0 or better.

Thanks for the response guys. I think I just need to work on my launch and shifts, and also wait for some cooler weather.
More mods can't hurt either!

Thanks

I ran [email protected] as the best time on my first time to the track with the Viper. I was running 25psi in the rears and launched revving to around 2000RPM and then feeding in the clutch. But I have more breathing mods and 3.55 gears.

By revving above 1500RPMs and slipping the clutch I dropped 0.3 seconds compared to starting off from idle. But I still spun the rears twice after the better launch by hitting 2nd to hard. I was running 2.0 60', and I figure that I could shave 2 tenths off of the 60' with some practice, which should get 12.0 with my trap speeds.

But better times usually come with more track time and practice.

The mph will increase with a better launch. I agree 115 is not enough for a high 11.

A Viper with a stock motor should run just fine on 93 octane.

As to MPH, I have noticed my MPH vary between 113 on a really bad run up to 120 on my best run, and I am fairly consistently running about 118-119. I believe my launch technique and shifts have the most to do with the MPH. If I launch at too low an RPM and bog off the line, my MPH will be low. If I launch at too high and RPM and spin like crazy off the line, my ET will not be very good, but sometimes my MPH can still be high. An ideal launch, with just a little bit of tire spin and no bog is best, but hard to achieve and depends a lot on track prep and conditions and mostly on the driver. Additionally I have noticed that if I don't shift VERY quickly and get back on the gas and out of the clutch I will lose MPH. I have not had the guts to power shift it through the whole 1/4 mile yet, but plan to try next time out. Also your shift point affects MPH. I am sure every Viper is a little different and most people swear by shifting a stock GEN II at 5,400 to 5,600 RPM, but I have analysed it. Using my dyno graph, and gear ratios, when my engine was completely stock I was better off shifting at 6,000 RPM in 1st and 2nd gears and at 5,800 RPM in 3rd. I have since added headers, high flow cats and cat back, as well as smooth tubes and filters and redyno'd. Now I am better off shifting at 6,000 to 6,100 in all gears as the motor breathes much better at upper RPM than it did stock.

Hope this helps.
