What is the best (most safe, cheapest, and easiest) way to get around 50hp more on a Gen I Motor.
Vec 1, Belanger Headers, No cats, K&N air filters.
My friends 93 has these same mods and his car pulls an extra 50 hp.
I dyno'd my 94 at 402 rwhp, and assume the 85% efficiency of the drivetrain, that's 470 at the crank. Totally stock Gen 1 was underrated at 400hp, so you have to guess what the gain really was.
What's really cool is that factory torque was 450; I dyno'd at 487 rwtq or so, which is 570 crank. I think asking for more power (i.e. air flow at higher speeds) is harder to get; look for efficiency at the speeds you'll use.
I have 1.7 rockers, tubes and filters, and 3" from manifolds through catalyst and back. And 73,000 miles. If I had to get something next, I'd go for VEC2. Read this:
