In their May 98 comparo, Motor Trend pushed a 98 GTS to a top speed of 192.6 mph (at which point a water hose sprung a leak). The performance figures MT generated in that 98 comparo have exceeded almost every other magazine test of Gen II cars, even those of model years 99-01. The only exception, to my memory, has been a Popular Mechanics drag strip shootout in August 97, when they managed a 1/4 mile time of 11.97 @118.88 mph.
