I am changing my p/s pulley with a march unit and new serpentine belt. Who has done this? How difficult and do I need a pulley remover or will it just pull off? Thanks.

having just done it yesterday on my Gen 2 it wasn't too bad. I took the pump off ( 3 bolts-2 hoses). You will need a pulley remover on Gen 2 ( I assume gen 1 the same). Make sure you get a tool that will help put the pulley back on. I used a bolt that fit inside the shaft of the pump where the pulley presses on and a nut with 2 washers.

It is not necessary to remove the PS pump itself (if you don't want to). The cross member in-front of the PS unit will need to have the two (2) bolts from each end removed. This will allow movement vertically to get a puller/installer on. You will need a PS pulley remover to get the OEM one off. Most auto parts places will rent you one. If you cannot locate one, PM me. When putting a PS pulley on, the end of the PS shaft MUST be flush with the pulley surface. If it is not, premature belt wear and/or failure will result. You can use a bolt and some washers to do this but an installer tool is easier (they have a bearing inside). There is a lot of stress on a "bolt and washer" when pressing on a PS pulley. This may cause the washers to "cup" under the pressure and not give a flush fit. An installer tool will not do this.

Mine came out flush using the washer-I used 2 fender washers which are pretty stout. I tried several places to get the official install tool and no one had it.

I thought about pulling the crossmember, but wasn't sure if I was going to have a hard time bolting it back up. It definitely would be easier. As long as you can reach and get leverage I 'd do it that way. I couldn'r so I pulled the pump out for better accessability
