What\'s the cost to end detonation?

So I'm getting some knocking when I attempt WOT. I back off as soon as I hear it. A couple tanks mixed with techron seems to help a little along with using only Chevron gas (91 only in ******-cali). I'm thinking this is more than just needing better gas although I haven't tried 100 octane race gas yet, but I don't know if that's what I want to fill it with all the time seeing how that can be costly.

What are the steps to fixing this with a Vipertech and how much would it cost ballpark?

Is your car modded?

Stock vipers should not ping, unless there is something wrong.

Info about the car would help.

buy a VEC2 and tune it that way

With those mods you are getting a leaner mixture due to more flow. Since you are limited to crap gas a VEC2 might be a good idea.

But then again it could be those K+N Filers. They've been known to cause knock at any speed

running to lean. I had the same problem when it was hot and I would run it hard. I run my motor very rich and it stopped the pinging. And yes I use my nitrous alot

With your mods an AEM unit or a Vec 2 would be recomended. The viper computer has no proper way of measuring air flow and there by adding more fuel.

The other things that may help you is...

1-replacing your fuel filter.

2-installing an msd boost a pump or something like it and getting some adjustments done on a dyno.

3-Checking your spark plugs to make sure they are oem.

My "new-to-me" gts came with nitrous and the previous owner supposedly never used it either. Living in ******-Cali, I can get fined just having it installed in the car, so the tank sits dutifully in my garage now until I have an excuse to use it.

So is the consensus to go with a vec2?

spend the $400 and get an Innovate Wideband, I put one in my car and found out I was running 13.4 : 1 under boost! It saved my motor.

I had my compter in the car pulled out and re-mapped to run richer. but that cost me $600.00 Eddie the viper tech in Phoenix did it for me.

Had the same prob, I had the car in Texas for a bit, they have 93 Oct gas there so no knocking. As soon as I brought it to Calli (91 OCT highest)I was hearing a knocking sound at WOT. My Viper tec told me to try mixing about 5 gal of racing fuel in with each tank. That cured it no prob.

what's the detonation sound like? I've heard it on other vehicles and its like a someone flicking an aluminum can, but I'm occationally hearing a sound on my car at full throttle in low gears...is it a rattling sound?
