Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

why not answer the question about the cost with a range:

"you can get one for 45-70k used"
or
"less then a new BMW or Lexus"

nothing personal about your finances there. its not like like there asking if you paid cash or had to finance it. im sure they think its hot and want to know if they can buy one in this lifetime. the car looks like its $150,000+. dont be so uptight. with your comments, you can make or break your own re-sale value. Build interest in the viper re-sale market.

If you saw 90% of the people that always ask this question I think your opinion would change. They aren't interested in buying, just being rude and tossing a comment in about Joe Smo they know that owns a more expensive car or some other stupid comment.... Like I care.... I swear I know the person is going to ask this question BEFORE they ask it, just by the way they are acting. I'm not saying there isn't the occasional time where the question is posed in a sincere way, but 90% of the time the 'asker' is just trying to be an a*s.

Don't you think it would be rude if every time someone walked into your house they looked around with a stupid look on there face, then ask "How much?". Without even knowing you or asking any other questions? Mailman, Garbage Man, Paperboy, etc... It's really no different and puts you in an uncomfortable position.

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

I think I got my first strange comment today around 11:00am.

I’m stopped a light, in the turning lane, and I see a 30yr. Old Spanish looking guy walking toward me with 2 fishing poles and no shirt. He stops on the sidewalk across the street 3 lanes from me. He’s just staring at me. I gave him a wave as kind of thanks for admiring the Viper, and he still keeps staring. So I roll the window down to see if he has something he wants to say:

He says, “ you must be better than me because you got a Viper”
I quickly replied, “no, I just spend more working than I do fishing”
He said, : you think your more special than me”
I said, “I don’t, but maybe you think I am”
He says again, “your special”
I said, “this is America, anybody can own a Viper, they’re all over the place”
He just stares at me
I said, “ you should put down the fishing poles and go get yourself one”

with that the light change and I went to work and he went fishing at 11:05am, on a Tuesday in West palm Beach, FL America 2006.

Only in America:)

That was a weird encounter. People who make statements like that guy made freak me out. Very close to the edge of sanity for him to talk to a stranger like that, IMO.

He's sitting on a seawall right now fishing, looking across at the island of Palm Beach, feeling sorry for himself. NOT WORKING OR LOOKING FOR WORK :) just sitting there fishing. WTH

What relly ****** me off, is I came from no money or family contacts. I bought my Viper by simple working more hours and handling the money I did make with more care. So I'll never let somebody talk to me like I'm some "Trust Trash".

I didn't see him fishing, but the intercostals waterway is the only place too fish around there.

Some socialist thinking immigrants think, America is like the country they came from, with classes you can't work, or earn, yourself out of.

Honestly, I'm getting tired of the "what did you pay?" question. I'm gonna start telling people I'll tell them if they show me their checkbook so I can see how much money they spend on things :buttkick:

I just answer that stupid question with "Too much."

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

I've only had mine for a few days. I've had the " How much was it?" numerous times. Last night a guy walked by at the gas station and when I fired it up he said " Squak the tires!" ..lol.. I just said no...I can't afford new ones..ha ha.. I've had lots of the usual ones but the one that surprised me was driving into a parking lot the other night a guy yelled over " Nice car... did your daddy buy it for you?? Now this I could understand if I was 18 years old but I'm 37 and had my daughter with me. I actually stopped the car and looked at him and with a puzzled look on my face I said " PArdon?" No it's not my daddy's car. I am the daddy." The funniest part was that my wife was right behind me with our son in the Vette. Then he says to me. " Ya sure...and I bet this is your wife in the Vette?" Then I laughed hard at the irony and looked right at him and said" Yes it is".. We both parked and got out with our kids and I made sure to give my wife a kiss. I looked over and the guys jaw dropped. He made some stupid comment about having too much money and then later he was still hanging around and tried to appologize for his comments.

That was too funny. Most of the attn you get is good but with all good must come some bad.

Haha great story. i have had that comment also, but i almost knocked the guys teeth out. See it happens to me because i'm only 24, but what the a$$holes don't understand is that i've been in the Marines for 6 years working my a$$ off, i've bought all my own things. So when they say that, i stop get out of the car and ask them to repeat themselves, once they see me and notice i'm a pretty built guy they say [******], nothin nice car. Lol PUNKS haha

That's what I mean. Some A-holes think the only way a person can drive a Viper is if someone buys it for him. It never occurs to some people that we actually work, to earned money, and have rewarded OURSELVES with the ownership.

A few years back when I had my Gen 1, this hot middle aged women asked if she could teach me dance leason in exchange for a ride in my car. I told her I don't dance, but she could teach me something much more meaningful than dancing for a ride.
This was while I was helping her out of the passanger seat in her miniskirt.........nice!

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

Being 20 yrs old , I could write a novel with the amount of " daddy comments " and " how much" or "what do you do and how much do you make ?" I guess you learn easiest way to get out of each question with the least amount of time spent messing around with the idiot. I used to think it was fun / exciting to mess with people and [******] about the car, but it comes to a point when you just get tired of it. I have an answer pre-made up in my head for about every comment thrown at me , that will not cause a conflict or lead to conversation.

on the flip side of that, I get a lot of nice comments , seeing as a young guy might be more approachable than a crabby old dude ( so someone told me once ) , and the girls dont seem to be very shy ... :) .

People dont know what to think when you answer with " over 1000 hp , about 240 mph " hehe

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

Pulled up to Mcdonalds in Ocean City, MD a month ago with a buddy of mine in the car. two 18 year old girls come up to the car and one gets in the middle of the road to stop me.

She screams "Oh my god a viper!, Seroiusly.... what do you i have to do to sleep with you tonight".

I of course replied "give me your number"

I did not call her, but it was a pretty amazing example of how a car can get you laid.

I must be living in the wrong part of the country. All I ever get are "Thumbs Up" from landscaping crews in their beat-up, deralic one ton crew cab pick-ups. I did have a hot little Air Force Captain on MacDill AFB once comment on how "hot" the car was and if I get to drive it much...no, I towed it there just to let her see it...

Unfotunately I had my brother inlaw with me and we're married to sisters.
But I figured that she got to sit in the car and I got a sneak peek at some real Canadian ******, so I was happy enough.

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

Actually, I can tell a few stories.
Like last month when I was taking my buddy down to pickup his RT that he just had super charged. We stopped at ******* in Fargo like always and our waitress wanted to know if she could drive my car. I immediately said NO! And she seemed a little shocked by my quick response. Then she said can I touch it. I immediately said NO! She again looked at me with this **** look on her face. So I explained that the only thing that touches my paint is micro fiber or bare *******, because I don't want any scratches. She said what if she has her ******* pierced? I said well then we would have a problem. She says too bad I won't get to touch your car then. She had this devilish smile on her face and by the time we were done our dinner I knew where everyone of her piercings were. She had three and one wasn't her belly button either. :p

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

I guess every time you drive the Viper it's a new adventure. Yesterday was the first time I took it to work and I had all the usuall questions. Then on the way home I'm sitting at a red light and a car with 2 young hotties pulls up beside me. The one girl finally says something and I look over and the 2 of them are giggling away and tell me how nice the car is. I thank her and then the funny part comes. The passenger leans over and yells out. " Can I take a picture of you?" I thought she was joking and then she pulls out a camera and is serious. I was laughing my head off and said " Sure you can" and she DID. I'm driving away and thinking " This has NEVER happened to me before." I told her to email me a picture of it and took off for home. I'm still trying to convince myself it wasn't the car and she actually wanted a picture of me..........this thought process isn't going to well. I keep snapping back to reality and realizing it was the car.... but maybe.......just maybe....LOL :nana:

You obviously don't live in the rural Midwest then. I've pulled a lot more women in my pickup than with my Viper. Most women around here are concerned more about eating and landscaper type guys who drive beat up trucks!

It's funny, though, here in rural Mississippi a big pickup truck is usually the status symbol that women are drawn to.....however, the viper still gets more attention due to it's rarity, etc.

That is not a good status report of rural Midwest women

Re: What\'s the weirdest comment you\'ve heard?

I was selling my 96 RT/10 and I had told the guy that was looking at it that people will ask all types of questions about the car. I took him for a test ride and of course some one pulled up next to us and asked if it was a new viper. I said it was a 96 and she said WOW that car looks awesome. To say the least I sold the car. I could not have paid some one to do better. These cars are awesome.
