My fuzzy recollection from reading another post or magazie article is that for a 2008-2009, 1st gear will take you to 60 mph, 2nd will take you to about 80 mph, 3rd is about 130 mph, and from there I just can't remember. 6th gear is obviously very tall and is theoretically geared for about 300 mph:) but that one would obviously take you to the Viper's top speed of 202 mph.

Based on rev limiter @6350, 345/30-19 Michelin PS2 @764 revs/mi, and stock gearing of 2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1.1, .74, .50 with 3.07 rear end-
1st-60
2nd-91
3rd-125
4th-147
5th-219
6th-325

Edit to add, Gen3 speeds are about 3% lower in each gear due to lower rev limit.

There seems to be a large variation of opinion for top speed in 4th gear. Is it 147 mph or 165 mph? I'd guess 165 is correct.

The Gen IV cars have a different 2nd gear ratio than the Gen III cars. The Gen IV has 1.82 2nd gear and the Gen III is a 1.78. Granted not much difference but it is different. Also in one post they are using 6350 and the other is 6250 rpm.

The post from the Road and Track test is correct for the speeds in each gear. I have tested it in the car with 3.07 gears. I also have tested it with 3.55 gears and the Mopar PCM at 6500 rpm and this is the results with that combo.

1st- 56 mph
2nd- 81 mph
3rd- 114 mph
4th- 148 mph
5th- 200 mph
6th- N/A

Hmmm, I've seen both 1.1 and 1.0 listed online as the 4th gear ratio for the car. If it's 1.0, then the top speed would be more like 162-163, which jives with the R&T results.

Would be nice if they made 5th a bit shorter (like .84) to make it more useful at the track. Could still keep the uber-tall 6th for highway MPG figures.

This is copied from the Dodge service manual for an 08. Top speed as stated before is in 5th gear at about 5500 rpm which is right at the sweet spot for torque and HP

I have hit 160 plus in fourth in my 08 at Watkins Glenn Race track on the back straight. Not sure of the rpm but close to the rev limit i think.

This is absolutely wrong about 4th gear. I know what you are thinking to yourself, "Malu59RT, how can you say a statement like that so boldly?" May I present to you, exhibit A:

You might want to read the WHOLE post before you make such a bold statement....I was giving you the speeds with 3.55 gears! Road and track published the ones with 3.07

The post did not mention aftermarket gears so it seems the mentioned winner is correct. So what are the top speed limits for each gear for a gen 3? I am sure not much different than a gen 4 but is a little different

Watch this entire video and tell me if the picture looks familiar. That driver deserves a cookie for taking that photo at 160mph

:lmao:

Looks like he was talking to someone else, so I would guess there was a passenger taking the video. The photo probably was by the driver. That says a lot about how stable those cars are, at 160.
