The reaer wheel bearings are sealed right? There would be no need to repack them or anything like that?

I think my wheel bearings are going bad since I hear a whooping noise from the rear and it shakes the car a bit too. I have two new ones on order just in case.

My tires are not flat spotted either.

Any ideas?

Really don't know what the cause of that is although I also have a 98 gts that has been doing the same thing lately. I am attributing the cause in my case to the cold weather. It seems like the first few miles of driving the car, it will thump a bit ....like flat spots on rear tires but then it smooths out after a few miles. Didn't notice it over the summer. Can't be the cold in your case though being from florida. Sorry...not much help here. Does yours smooth out when you drive for awhile? I am not too concerned on my end being things smoooth out quickly.

None of the bearings are serviceable. I would check all the half shaft strap bolts torqued down. Especially if you changed shafts and reused the bolts. I had a couple loose and vibrated the vehicle pretty good.

AB,

Check you hubs also. They are sealed also and not servicable.
I had mine replaced under warranty. Left front came apart when removed and
the other 3 were leaking...not good. If you track your viper this is worth
looking into.

I looked at my rears and they have a little bit of bearing grease leaking out on both sides, so if they are sealed then that is not a good sign right?

I have a set coming in under warranty, but just wanted to make sure it wasn't a bad drive shaft or an unbalanced one.

Hi AB,

Can't answer that question. I would check with you tech. Also make a new post to the board and ask. You might consider calling Jon B at the Partsrack or Chuck Tator. They may help you.

Sealed Bearings do not leak - if it is leaking it is at the end of its life and should be replaced. Say no more !!
