Bad, bad, bad. Unless you want to change your oil much, much, much more often. All the water that accumulates from cold cylinder walls and normal by-products of combustion will never boil off. If you want to fool the ECU, then do so with a modification to the coolant temperature sensor. If you want cooler intake air, then... get some. Cooler coolant won't get you cooler air.

Keep in mind that a 160 degree thermostat doesn't mean your car will run cooler. During hot weather a 180 thermostat will probably be open all the time, except maybe for a nice cool evening. 160 is definately too cold.

$12.60? Are you kidding me?

I bought the Napa 180 thermostat and I think it was $36.

Adam, you've got email. If you email me and don't get a response within a few hours, please reply to this post. Yahoo address have been being eaten by my ISP's spam filter as of late so I don't know if you'll get through to me or not.

The one we have starts to open at 172 and is fully open at 180.
The PCM will seta a check engine light if the coolant temperature stays too cool for too long. I've seen that happen one car with our front duct kit and low temperature thermostat.
I think there's also a correlation between coolant temperature and the PCM open loop / closed loop status.
Regards,
Sean
