Does anyone have a stock Gen1 exhaust that they want to get rid off? I just took mine through the bi-annual emissions testing, and failed... The THC/NOx/CO numbers are actually good (barely), but noise levels are a bit higher than allowed; 105db (93db limit).... Oops.... :(

I have two weeks to get this taken care of before my tags expire and I have to take the car off the road. So, if you guys have an old exhaust kicking around that you keep tripping over and need to get rid of, please let me know!

FWIW, I have a set of ****** headers, Roe cats, and Dynomax bullet mufflers. I believe it is 3" all the way through. Sounds great, but obviously a bit loud (it does drone, but I usually fix that with revs... ;) If you guys know of another muffler solution which will work, I'd really like to hear about it.

Thanks!
Mike

Buy something new, I was going to ship my stock gen1 exhaust to NJ and shipping was outrageous. I just put them at the curb last night because nobody wanted to pay the shipping costs.

If this is only temporary, just use steel wool. Pack it inside the exhaust pipe deep as possible. It will burn off and not last long at all but it will get you passed.

Are you crazy man?? Just use a banana!

Axel Foley : What are you all, the second team?
Detective McCabe : We're the first team.
Detective Foster : Yeah, and we're not going to fall for a banana in the tailpipe.
Axel Foley : [Mocking him] You're not going to fall for the banana in the tailpipe? It should be more natural, brother. It shouldflow out, like this - "Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!" See, that's more natural for us. You been hanging out with this dude too long.

[Beverly Hills Cop] :)
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I tried stuffing the pipes with exhaust packing (that I had for my dirt bikes) and running through emissions testing again this morning, but no go. The (*&@!@ at the facility set up their db meter, and ran up the engine to at least 3-4k rpm to measure the noise. Well, the some of the packing came out (not a lot, mind you...) and they immediately failed it again. B*ST*RDS! With all the ricers running around with fart cans, and they have an issue with this...
I wasn't aware of the Dynatech cones; they look interesting, but I don't think they'll bring down the volume enough. Isn't a 10db reduction 1/2 the volume? With the attitude these guys seem to have, I don't want to mess around trying different things. I'd like to throw on a stock system, which I know will pass.
IEATVETS, wish I had known you were about to toss yours....
viper_man, you've got pm...

Thanks again; I'll let you know what happens...

Probably the best thing you can do is just go to another facility. They may not even run the db test.

Sounds like you need to make some friends, you may know someone in common. Like Ben, Ben Franklin that is. ;)

Every 3db decrease is half the sound level. To go from 103 to 93, you would affectively cut your sound level in half more than three times!

103db is REALLY loud. Sounds to me like they are sticking the meter directly in your side pipe! Look at this page: 103 db is equal to a jet flyover at 1000ft.

Something is amiss at your testing facility!
