Viper vs. Vette

Anyone seen this? I am sure it is somewhere on the board, but since I am new I may have missed it...

The only thing I do not like about this feature is the picture. The newer Viper styling is morphing into a Vette and the picture really shows it. Sorry, but just my opinion.

amen. The guy I bought the GTS from bought an SL55 .. and told me he wished he hadn't, to let him know if I decided to sell it.

I like my 06 coupe, but the performance of the vette or any other car with those numbers is very respectable aside from looks.

Seeing as we've had Z06's in the past, and now have the '08 paddle-shifting 436hp Vette (which has more hp than previous Z06's and can really spank those~~)...we have both...and as people who know me, I ALWAYS say NOTHING compares to the Viper...you simply cannot compare a Vette/Z06 to a Viper...we have TONS of fun with both cars....and of course, the paddle-shifting makes the Vette faster out of the hole, but in endurance???? OF COURSE------VIPER wins...hands down...always! We like both cars for varying reasons...paddle-shifter is faster light-to-light and we have traffic we're always driving in, so it's nice not to shift all the time...but for raw BEAST power, we'll take the Viper ANYDAY.........just my .02 for what it's worth. ~juli

It makes me sad that the major distinction that I see between the two looks wise is the two stripes... Although I still love the looks of the 08. The Viper is starting to have the look of the Corvette/European look. Comparing it the the GTS.

I couldn't disagree more...the Viper has that muscular look that a Corvette/Z06 just does not have...whether it's an SRT or a GTS...tho, I'll admit we love the GTS body style.
Remember, we HAVE both cars...in no way does the Vette look anything like the Viper.

In "no way" and "couldn't disagree more" are pretty strong words. Think of it this way, The Viper looks a heck of a lot more like a Vette now than say a 1994 Viper vs. a 1994 Vette. They are getting closer, especially the front and the stance. The Vette is getting a "little" more exotic and the Viper a "little" less exotic. That's just how I see it even though I only have a Viper.

I think the lines on the C6 are ok. It looks pretty good "for a Corvette." But the lines are still tame, as they are intended to be to appeal to the general target market for that line.

Latest Viper styling... I love it from the windshield back. The double bump roofline, swell over the rear tire well, side exhaust.. It's all good. It's the front clip that needs a more aggressive look. Well, really just the nose from the wheels forward.

I'm hesitant to say so, but I am looking at a picture that Austin posted in the Wallpaper post where it shows a Venom Red SRT-10 in motion. From that angle.... if you hold your hand up to block out the whole car except for the nose.... I swear I am looking at a 4th gen LS1 Camaro SS. Slightly smudged.

To me, the Viper front is looking more like a vette. The curves are starting to become less and less. The sides and rear are becoming near identical to the the vette. The 96 Viper to the 96 Vette look nothing alike, especially compared to the 08 viper and 08 vette. I suppose a lot of it has to do with aerodynamic designs becoming closer to ideal.

In "no way" and "couldn't disagree more" are pretty strong words. Think of it this way, The Viper looks a heck of a lot more like a Vette now than say a 1994 Viper vs. a 1994 Vette. The regular C6 Corvette does indeed look positively plain beside a Viper. I like the looks of both the C6 Z06 (obviously, since I have one. ) and the Viper, and for me it depends on the angle as to which one I think looks better. From the front, the Viper gets the nod, but I personally prefer the Z06's side profile.

The one thing I do notice is that the Z06 is much more color senstive than the Viper. I have not seen an 08 color combo on the Viper that I don't like. They all look great. On the Vette, the only two colors I DO like are Lemans Blue (what I have) and black. The lighter colors do not work well on the C6 bodystyle IMO.

Yeah, if I COULD have, I'd have gotten a black C6...red is not my favorite color (sorry, Chuck and Dave~~and others who have the red Viper!!)...the LeMans Blue is also a nice color for the Vette...and I agree, all the colors for the Viper look great, tho of course, we're partial to BLACK! In talking about the side view--I still go with the Viper's side view, back view and front view. I love either seeing it in my rear-view mirror, or driving behind it~~nothing like that BEAST! ~juli

Red actually IS my favorite, but not on a Corvette. Go figure. Can't explain, it just doesn't seem to flatter the C6's lines (red looked much better on the C5). My Saleen, M3, and Harley are all red, and if I get a Viper I'll probably do Venom Red.

Venom Red looks gorgeous...I'll admit to that one!! Red is not my fave for the Vette either...BLACK would look awesome!!! Never liked red cars....just personal preferences!

I'd also like to see the Z06 go head to head against the 08 Viper WITHOUT the stock Goodyear runflats, just to take tires out of the equation. Kudos to Dodge for getting rid of them on the 08 Viper, the runflats on the vette are horrible tires. The second Michelin releases the OEM tire size on the Sport cups, my Goodcraps are going in the garbage can.

**I agree, set up the '08 Z06 with the '08 Viper...and it's still comparing apples to oranges...in terms of suspension/hp-tq/even taking tires out of the equation, and not running the run-flats. I'd love to see the results...I only know that the '08 Vette we have, the 436hp with exhaust package outruns the older Z06's out there (stock: 405hp)...paddle-shifting away~~yesssss! ~juli

Thanks for the pics. The backs are not even close... From the front they are very close, espcially if your Vette had the scoop like the one in my original post. The sides of the Viper are much more straight than they used to be, which makes it closer to the Vette. Let's agree that we disagree! Have a great day!
