so is that chinese or japanese?
good to know I was right in the first placeOh, Re: the 3.54 vs 3.55, they are the same gear. It's a matter of rounding, as mentioned before.
then see what that part number says about that part number.
The Viper "Super44" diff is unique to Vipers and certain Corvettes in that the pinion shank, bearings, and pinion spline is actually the size of a Dana 60. The pinion gear and ring gear are standard D44 dimensions. A hybrid, if you will. Regular old Dana 44 gears can be installed, however a sleeve must be welded to the pinion shank of the smaller D44 to make it the appropriate size for the Viper's inner pinion bearing. A new outer bearing, seal and smaller spline yoke must all be sourced as well, resulting in more money for a much weaker rear end.
Beginning in '95-'96 Vipers began to receive larger 7/16" ring gear bolts instead of the smaller 3/8", all else being the same. A few companies have bolt kits with spacers for installing small bolt gear sets onto a large bolt case. If you install a large bolt gear set onto a small bolt case the case holes must be enlarged to accomodate the larger bolt. All gear sets will interchange from '92 to '08.
However, differentials between '92-'02 and '03-06 will not swap. The SRT diff is much wider, and will not fit in the Gen I/II housing. The '08-'09 GKN differential will swap into a '03-'06 SRT housing, but you must buy the axle stubs for the '08-'09, as there is a difference there.
I hope this brings everyone up to speed.
Oh, Re: the 3.54 vs 3.55, they are the same gear. It's a matter of rounding, as mentioned before.
Wow...great info, thanks! So...installing a Dana 44HD 3.54 ring and opinion into my GenII diff is NOT going to work without a lot of work are you described? I ask this because I see vendors that offer Dana 44HD ring and pinion sets for Viper. It sounds like, based on your explanation, that I need to install Dana 60 ring and opinion for a proper fit, correct? Or is Unitrax the only gearset that will work for our diffs?
If the Dana 44HD is what they're calling the Viper's gearset, you'll be fine. They'll go right in. Regarding the Dana 60 ring and pinion, you misunderstood my explanation. The Viper's Dana 44 only shares the Dana 60's pinion shaft size and spline size. Dana 60 parts won't fit. (Except for the pinion yoke.)
Just talked to Taylor Race. The gears they are quoting is Dana part number 707381-3X. I have not researched it yet. He's gonna get a tooth count and ring bolt size for me as he has 2 sets on the shelf.
I thought rear ends had to be an odd number. Are there other rear end numbers beside the 3.54's that are even?

Just got the info on the Dana 707381-3X gear set.
-> 11/39 tooth count, 3/8 ring gear screw diameter.
Comments?
Made for the earlier rearend. Unless you want to drill it out(harden steel, no thanks), you might want to sell it and get a superdana gear set.
I don't, sorry Tony. I would give Chuck Tator a call, he knows everything. And if he is fuzzy on a certain piece of info, he will track it down and get back with ya.

Taylor Race said they use 3/8 ARP bolts and have never had a failure.
I would have no problem with ANYTHING Taylor racing says. They are the experts. I was just clairfing when the danas and super danas were installed and the differences. Both rearends are good enough to put down major HP![]()

I have not purchased anything yet. Well, aside from a purdy red 2001 GTS a few years back. Just doing research.
So my rear end would be a 2001 assuming I take mine out and take it to Taylor Race. We are neighbors here in the DFW area.
You mean downtime like during the 4 months of summer it's too hot to drive your car in Teaxs?
Really though, not a big deal as they are just 60 miles from me. Throw it in the back of the Super Duty and go get it when they are done.
Ok, I am going to have to challenge the info here. Monzsta is new here, info with grain of salt, but he is on the other board(I think). The Super Dana rear was put in all cars starting in 2000 NOT 95/96. all the cars from 1992-1999 had the standard Dana rear which came with the 3/8" ring gear bolts. The change to the 7/16" ring gear bolts came with other beefier parts in 2000 on the super Dana.
Richmond lists '93-95 as a 1.626" pinion with 29 spline, making it a big pinion.
1993-1995 Dodge Viper Street Gear Ring And Pinion Set Fits Dana 44 3.75 Ratio 45-12 Teeth 8.537 in. Dia. Ring Gear 1.626 in. Dia. Pinion 29 Spline
The rearend parts numbers are the same with the exception of the designation of "AB" (earlier 1992-1999 diff) compared to the Super Dana's "AC" (2000-2002).
The experts are of course Chuck Tator and Mark Jorg., so I refer to them to clarify my info. Maybe I'm wrong................................................![]()

MORE INFO!!!
I sent this inquiry to Snake Oyl who sells 2 Dana sets - pre 2001 and 2001-02.
My email to them:
On your Dana 3.55 gear sets for the Gen 2 Viper, there is a kit up to 2000 and then a kit for the 2001 and 2002 cars.
What are the differences in these kits?
-> Is tooth count the same?
-> Is the pinion shaft size the same?
-> Is the ring gear diameter and count the same?
Their reply:
The 1992-2000 Viper do not have ABS, all models 2001+ have ABS. The ABS units require a different Pinion seal and collars for the ring gear bolts. Pinion and ring gear have the same dimensions and counts – all Dana 44 HD (not to be confused with the light-duty 44 used in Corvettes).
