Beat a 08 Z06

I got invited to a party/ corvette car show at my friends property which has access to a private air strip. I showed up in my 02 ACR. Definately a Chevy scene. There were several corvetts, chevelles etc. The Viper was a huge hit though!!

Its funny how the Chevy guys act like they are not interested but could not stay away or not look. Anyway the owner of the Z06along with several others started in about me running my car down the strip. I was reluctant due to my old hard tires..but finally gave in.
Did a couple of rolling 100'burn outs and then lined up with the Z06. We ran 3 times. Spanked him bad the first run. The 2nd run I had him till 2/3 rds track and missed 3rd. The 3rd run was perfect and I took him by a fender at the 1/4. Curious to run my car on lights to see what it turns, I would guess high 11's low 12's.. I was doing about 120 mph at the 1/4.
A ton of fun!! Private strip, old fasioned hand drop start. Didnt know what to expect running against a 505 Hp z06 but the Viper prevaled.

The Viper prevailed because the driver in the Z06 COULD NOT DRIVE .Both cars being STOCK there is no way a Gen 2 could come near a current Gen Z06.Jamie Furman holds the stock record in both cars his Gen 2 is approx .7 slower than his Z06 in the quarter .

I know hes run 11.55 in his stock Gen 2 and around 10.8-10.9 in his stock Z06 so there is a BIG difference in the 2 cars.It really all comes down to the driver .To proclaim one car quicker than another you MUST have an expert level driver running both cars the same day at the same track .

Dave if you were to search drag times there are MANY guys running stock Z06s into the low 11s that a fact .The fastest times ever ran for a stock Gen 2 are Furman 11.55 and Evan Smith at 11.7 (i was there for that test )a stock car is as fast as the record say it is and in this case its not close

Funny, I have both a 2002 ACR and a 2008 Z06. Both are stock. The Z06 is definitely faster. That's not to say I like one better then the other.

The best i have ever heard was Furman BONE STOCK on stock ties RUNNING 11.5 if it Pauls RT you were referring to that car was modded running NON STOCK TIRES.To put in in perspective 95% of the owners out there cant break 12s RUNNING STOCK Gen2s .Great times for Gen 4s are lows 11s

Most definately- too many variables to list (hell i have seen great drivers in Gen 2 easily beat novices in Gen 4s and New Z06S )

I forgot about Wanted (GREAT DRIVER also ).If you look at the Z06s trap speeds they are in the upper 120s (right where a Gen 4 is ) thats tough to overcome in a car(Gen 2 ) that lucky to post a 120 mph trap speed

LOL in the end were all friends if you search back this topic has been debated for years Ps its not only the power advantage for the Z06 but its much, much lighter and better geared.

It is. But for some folks, unless the "race" was done on a drag strip by a magazine editor, it doesn't count. But for the other 99.9% of folks that don't go to the drag strip with magazine editors...you did a great job and you had fun. Congrats.

A "race" is a battle of "drivers" NOT a battle of "cars". Most folks forget this. Most folks, myself included, can NOT drive my cars to their limits. Neither is it likely that the other driver can either!!! That is the fun of racing!!! It's like a sword fight or a duel with 4 wheels and gasoline - Skill wins, not the bigger gun.

That was my joke about my 0.7 sec reaction times - and to be honest that would be a great one for me! If my RT's are under a second I'm happy. On the street, airstrip, etc. It's all about the driver and having FUN!!!! Not what Jamie or Car and Driver can do with/in the car.

But don't listen to me - I'm a self proclaimed arm chair racer, I watch F1.

I second that! There are Vette people trolling this forum waiting to pounce on how much faster is a vette over a viper. I my friend would rather see them go to a vette forum and leave the guys that like the slow,ugly,uncomfortable,crappy braking,crappy handling,less gadgets,plain looking interior and over all inferior vehicle to the people that pay $150 a year in membership and not have to read this bull sh*t

Myself iam going on my 6th Viper(another Gen4) dating back to 1993 (Before that i owned Vetts )and i always thought( esp since i have been involved with a ton of professional tests involving both )it is important to give an HONEST accessment of a cars capabilitys
