Previous race teams have mentioned that the strength of Viper is most evident in the way it can dig it's way out of the corners. This makes it easier on the drivers, and it has so much reserve strength that the engine endurance is a wonderful asset in endurance racing.

I have lots of friends, with pretty exotic machinery, and they are all amazed at how hard I can flog my Viper. Many of them are hesitant to drive their cars hard, as the repair bills can be enormous.

They need to run down the highway at least turning 4,000 RPM in order to get any kind of throttle response at all. In Vipers you can slog along at fuel saving, and comfortable turns, and still have enough torque to flow around traffic with ease.

The additional strength of the new Viper chassis can only help out, and the engineering put into the engine cross brace and re-designed rear suspension mounting design, should help the Viper to stay competitive.

Thanks to SRT we will be able to see our Hero's out on the track, mixing it up with some pretty world class competition.

And get Oreca involved again for extra reliability. The first year will be tough and I wonder how many years it will be a factory effort this time. $$$$$$

Oreca runs P1-P2 cars now though don't they? If Oreca was to get involved with the new race program we probably would have heard about it from the get go. Since they were the ones to bring the old program to Daytona...and win.

Doesn't look like it's gonna run @ Laguna Seca. Entry list was just updated and no Viper.

the Viper ALMS GT cars will begin tesring on May 22-23
My company PowerStream Industries is going full speed to finish all the parts necessary to help Riley Technologies make that happen. Let me tell you its an amazing car.
Even as good as Rileyis at making these things happen it will most likley be a struggle initially.

We are heavilly involved with a similar project in World Challenge with the Nissan GT-Rs which is also a great platform but there has been minor problems every event so far this season dealing with teething problems
It takes time of tremendous amounts of testing to work the bugs out.

This is the official entry list for the 24 Heurs du Mans 2012 in June. Sorry Fatboy 18. We will not see the car there this year. Send me an PM to let me know what camping spot you will be at so I can visit.

Heard from a good source that SRT is bringing "something worthwhile" to Road America this weekend.
Maybe it's the race car.......:eater:

Was at Laguna Seca today(ALMS),and it was pretty boring. I can't wait till next year when the new Vipers will be out. The series needs it bad. That is all...

I watched the ALMS race this weekend (even recorded it hoping the Viper might raise it's head..no luck) any word on when they'll be running? I've been to all the Petite Lemans at RA up until last year. The crowds and price has gotten huge, however, if I know the Viper will be there, I'll get my tickets today..

Petite will be interesting this year as it's NOT a WEC race and only an ALMS race unlike Sebring which was both. WEC scheduled an event the same weekend in Japan forcing teams to choose what to run. I think something happened between the track and the organizers for them to do this. Doesn't make any sense as it was a very popular race and you'd think any organization would want to be apart of it. As for the Viper, I think it will be there.

I remember hearing not to expect the car to be racing until very late in the season.

*****UPDATE*****

From the April30th Autoweek Magazine:

"Autoweek sources said that SRT hopes to race the car at Mid-Ohio in August, followed by outings in three ALMS races: Road America, Virginia International Raceway and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. It will likely skip the Baltimore street race."

So that leaves our latest predicted schedule for the 2012 season at:
----------------------------------------------------------------

March 18 - American Le Mans Series Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring - Sebring, FL

April 14 - Tequila Patron American Le Mans Series at Long Beach - Long Beach, CA

May 13 -Mazda Raceway Laguna SECA - Monterey, CA

July 7 - Lime Rock Park - Lakeville, CT

July 22 - Mosport International Raceway - Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada

August 4 - Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course - Lexington, OH

August 19 - Road America - Elkhart Lake, WI

September 2 - Baltimore - Baltimore, MD

September 16 - Virginia International Raceway - Danville, VA

October 21 - Road Atlanta - Braselton, GA

Didn't the C6R's go a class down 2-3 years ago in order to find some competition? They were pretty dominant that it chased a lot of teams from the class, they dropped HP and one class. If the Viper mixes it up with them in the current class, they might up the ante, add back HP and compete up one class?

The Vettes went from GT1 to GT2, but now GT1 doesn't exist. The ACO/FIA have GTE/Pro and GTE/Am now, and the ALMS only has GT.
