This is the beating of the technology drum. Time will tell if they figure out their battery fire issues or if EV's are a flash in the pan.

Not for me though. Maybe if I was in a situation where I had lots more dough and wanted strictly a commuter would I look at EV's. The money part matters because I have a couple of high dollar petrol burners that take priority over an EV any day on my list :)

That's quick for a sedan, take nothing away from the Tesla, but I think the issue is the viper driver. I'm assuming Palm Beach isn't at altitude, that's a gen3 with exhaust and filters, my gen3 with a catback ran 11.90s all day on run flats, and 11.70 when I went non run flat ps2. Running a 12.3-6 is darn slow. Just sayin.

Did they have to plug it in for a re-charge to get it back to the pits? I don't think Al Gore was driving, if so that the fastest 300 lbs of fat has ever gone.

Maybe Tesla could go even faster with aftermarket exhaust program and newer version of Windows? Honestly, who should give a flying what electric car can do on Viper forum?

true, as with any car that is driven hard the mileage goes down...

thanks for that link, I have a Model S, I know what it costs...

yesterday to work and back went 70 miles and used 20 KWH @ 11 cents...

If you run it on the strip, it will not make it even close to 300 miles. You may want to look at Tesla website before claiming 8 bucks per recharge.

Finally, keep in mind that taxpayers pay 7500 bucks for each of of these vehicles under the "subsidy" excuse".

If you have one, apparently I helped you pay for it.:drive: Hopefully the batteries will last you a while, longer than those that my laptops use, LOL.

The viper is 2005, without info on tires or condition of the car or the driver and anything else. If this viper runs on RF crap and is is a bit worn, no surprise here... Very meaningful demonstration here, LOL. Still waiting for a run with 2013 Nissan GTR, now, this would be meaningful.

I have a 2013 Nissan GT-R, bring it on.... I ran 10.8 @ 125 MPH stock...

in the real world, most high performance car owers can't drive their car well And will lose a race against a more advanced car (or easier to drive), even though it's technically slower in a perfect race....

8 years, unlimited miles...
This is not what I meant, I was referring to an actual real life span of these batteries, with people being people. My laptop batteries have lifetime warranty, this does not mean they will last lifetime, assuming the place that sold me the batteries is still in business at that time. Hopefully Tesla will not join Saab, screwing its customers over, in time. I would hate to see a disposal fee 9 years from now if you still have this car and something happens. Unless Tesla actually developed a new technology, there is no way these batteries will last 8 years anyway, not to mention that not all of them will go out at the same time. Batteries are batteries and they do lose their capacity over time, even though Tesla may be telling you otherwise.

I would rather race you since you have so much to say.... I would probably beat you in my wife's Range Rover....
I sincerely hope you drive considerably better than write, surely you must be good at something? Easy to see why you buy these cars, LMAO. Grow up dude and thanks for the chuckle.

I'm at the track frequently, you challenged a 2013 GT-R and subsequently got your foot stuck so far up your mouth you don't know what to do now aside from reverting to writing and content...

You should really drive more. And no, not your grammar, it is the content.

jAgain, concentrate on driving. Apparently it is not just lack of writing skills but lack of reading comprehension as well.

best run for the Tesla was 12.3 @ 110.8 MPH....

According to DragTimes, the user that posted the video, the Viper ran 12.2 @ 115 MPH. Just goes to show that the driver is the biggest factor in a race. Now if the same driver drove both cars and the Viper was still slower, I would be damned surprised.

thanks, so far so good, I'm a tech buff so I really like the 17" multi-touch screen combined with the all digital gauge cluster lets you customize everything just the way you want. Tesla can and does send out updates to the car so you can continually receive enhancements, new apps, radio options, etc, un-linke a BMW/MB where you can't get the new stuff until you trade in for another car. Full screen google maps with traffic for the navigation, HD Backup and driving camera, full web browser, energy usage graphs, the list goes on..

The driving experience is different, no noise, no shifting, no transmission, no waiting for power, all of the power is available from 0 RPM. You don't use the brakes much as the car uses it's regenerative braking to slow the car down and pump power back into he battery. The car is very strong to 100 MPH and then it struggles as you can see that video vs the Viper, top speed is 130 MPH.

I didn't buy the car to save $, but compared to driving my GT-R everyday (~18 MPG), it saves $400/month between gas and free express lane tolls. Compare it against a real gas hog like the Range Rover and it starts to really add up....

The downside I see with the Tesla is retention of value. After the batteries are no longer warranted, will not the value fall off the cliff? What is the replacement cost of the battery pack and the labor cost to swap it out?

My wife has a hybrid and the batteries are warrantied for 10 years or 100k miles. The theory is that the battery prices will be more reasonable 10 years down the road.

yea, residual is questionable, I don't think it will lose more than the equivalent BMW/MB car during the time I'll have it, certainly won't be 8 years.... The only car I've had 8 years was my Viper GTS and that needed the engine rebuilt during that time....

I think they offer a prepaid battery replacement program for $12k....

Look, I like the idea of innovation, but this notion that I see in this thread a few times and the sentiment of the public is comical to me. I'm literally sick of hearing that the electric vehicle is "going green." You do realize that electricity just doesn't come out of a hole in the wall.....

The amount of energy lost in transmitting the electricity created, plus the energy it took to create it, in most, and I do mean almost all situations, you are actually emitting more pollutants than if you were to just burn the fuel yourself.

Then again, what does congress know? It really makes the tax reward vs. punishment discussion ironic...

I have to wonder how long before we see a 10 second car with the technology of the Honda Clarity FCX and the looks of a high end sports car.

You must be registered for see images

It's powered by an electric motor but as opposed to the Tesla Model S it doesn't use batteries. It has it's own on board electricity generator which produces electricity by combining hydrogen (the most abundant element on the universe) with oxygen. You can charge it up in 3 minutes at a pressured hydrogen station, very much like we fill our car with gas today. I don't think I've heard of any other technology that would suit our needs better than this. I think it's only a few years away from happening. I wonder if they will offer it with a 8 cylinder engine sound MP3 sound board for people that will miss the good old days.
