Ok whats is the dealio here? I have owned a viper for many years. Why is it that MOST viper owners seem to be in their 50s to late 60s? Now don't post up saying you are in your late 20s or early 30s or whatever, we know there are the exceptions. The fact of the matter is MOST viper owners are old men. I wanted to join my local viper club, but the majority of them are old men with whom I have absolutely nothing in common with! *** is up with that? Nothing against old men here but wth is the deal here? They seem to be really stuffy old guys with nothing interesting to talk about who drive around in their vipers like they are some fing God's gift on this planet. It's definitely quite the awkward moment around them.

None of the Viper peeps I hang out with are 50+... there's a good dozen of us at least. Everyone is early 30s to mid 40s.

Maybe you should stop cruising the retirement villas... just kidding! :drive:

Ah. How old is your Dad? I assume that you respect him and that you can communicate with him. Perhaps, you are inadvertantly showing hostility and disrespect and the stuffiness you feel is really them standing off from you. Time does not stand still. Some day you will stand in the same place on the life continuum as the "old men" that you refer to in your post above.

Most of them have married; had their children born and grown into young adulthood; seen and felt the death of friends; perhaps been to war; formed their own business or attained sufficient success to buy a Viper; and witnessed many years of reality that occurred before you were born. I think that if you think about it a bit more, you will realize that people older than you are living time machines who can, when respected and properly prompted, teach you many things about what was and, based on what was, what might be.

You should make a poll with age groups, I'd be curious to see what the results are. I've only met 2 other Viper owners in my life and both were in their early to mid 30's including myself.

SSG, Why single out Vipers? Cant your perception/mentality be applied to tha majority of cars at or above a corvette?

What exactly are you looking for? If you want an "in" to hang out with the younger crowd than I suggest picking up a Supra/Rx7/GTR/BRZ/TurboScion/ Ect...

Also, look at the price of a Viper when they are/were new. I don't want to be rude or anything, but for some individuals a little older than others; a brand new Viper is a little easier to afford. These individuals like mentioned in previous replies may have a little more disposable income. I have a feeling that we will see some of the '92-'02 cars falling into the hands of mid 20s individuals due to the lower price.

I keep saving my dollars each day for my dream ride: Gen 1 green/tan, '96 roadster white, or '97 blue/white roadster. One day........

They were $70K-$100K new. Older guys tend to have more disposable income than guys in their 20's-30's. The price of Gen Is and IIs has fallen into "average" guy range, but the III's and newer are still out of reach for a lot of younger people.

Its funny you mention the price of the cars when new Jeff...When I walked into the dealer back in 1998 and saw their brand new silver RT/10, I remember reading the price to the tune of $96,500. Let's all hope the younger owners of the gen I/II cars treat them well, and bring back the beaten.

Maybe you're a really stuffy young guy with nothing interesting to talk about and drive around in your Viper like you are some fing Gods gift.
Sometimes your perception of someone is in reality just a reflection of yourself.

^^^ This.

Viper's are a top end car. :)

Being in the UK in my 20s I did own a 76 Chevy Camaro, that was a great car to be driving around the UKs roads with. Many other guys were buying Ford Escorts XR3i s, BMWs etc all always wanted to race me. The Camaro was not a big block 6.6 but the Girls liked it ;)

I had to do a lot of saving to buy my car, I had a goal, House family and other things sometimes get in the way of that goal, but I eventually got there and bought my car in my late 40s.

But I do have a mental age of 10 :D

This thread seems like another one of those threads that pops up about every six months here. You know the kind, the "I'm only XX age, and I'm a badass because I own a Viper." Or, "Who is the youngest Viper owner here?"

Does age really matter? If you feel uncomfortable around older people, maybe it is your own insecurity or feeling of lack of self-worth, that is really bothering you? I'm 40, and have car friends from 16 to... OLD. Car guys are my friends, no matter their age.

Thoughtful reply Bob!! I'm sure it will go over many heads, as it just makes too much sense

I'm sure those old guys will be missing out on something special without the OP in the group.

Old men - 50's and late 60's?

That's a great swipe at a lot of us. I happened to be 66, successfully retired. I bought my first
Viper when I was 61 after years of owning Vettes.

Thanks.

There is a contradiction in this statement. Also, you just answered your own question right there.

:lmao:My thoughts are the same. Just buy a rice burner and hang out with high school kids at wawa or mcdonalds parking lots at night. It is a really cool crowd, you will see. Sorry this thread is absurd.

Most Viper owners are fairly intelligent and decide in their younger years that instead of wasting their money on depreciating assets they buy a house, start a family, and drive a responsible car. As they get older in life and have more disposable income and the kids move on they reward themselves with a nice car. Being that they are older, they have already grown out of street racing, picking up on girls, and many of the other things that you probably can not relate to.

Maybe you should get to know some of these older successful men and find out what they have done to live a long and prosperous life.

Hey Fatboy

I was also riding around the UK (London) in my 20s (late 1960s-1970s), but it was in Triumphs (Herald, GT6, stag). To the 75 year old.........awesome. I figured at 62 I might be getting close to my last two seater. You give me hope.

Simple answer, they are the ones with the disposable funds to purchase such toys.
Agree here. You make more cheese (usually) when you are older and cannot hardly push the clutch in. LOL. The Vette crowd especially fits your question. Ask this on their forum and you will get really blasted. Kind of a Krate thread indeed. NOW back to watching younger guys in SRT running at Road Atlanta race. Except TK !!!

Funny thread. When I was a "kid" I remember all the girls I hung out with would complain that they'd see a nice car drive by and it would be a bummer that some old guy was driving it. Those same girls are now divorced three or four times and angry at the world.

Not sure where that just came from - I had nothing better to say, but I felt compelled to say something.....
