RECEIVED LETTER FROM LOCAL DODGE DEALER THAT SAYS IN PART, "DUE TO UNPRECEDENTED RECORD SALES THIS PAST YEAR, WE HAVE A NEED TO ACQUIRE SEVERAL PRE-OWNED VEHICLES INCLUDING YOUR 98 DODGE VIPER IN ORDER TO FULFILL SPECIAL USED VEHICLE REQUESTS. OUR RECORDS INDICATE YOU OWN ONE OF THESE VEHICLES AND OUR NEW CAR MANAGERS HAVE BEEN AUTHORIZED TO BUY BACK YOUR VEHICLE AT 100% OF ITS CURRENT MARKET VALUE." DIDN'T KNOW DODGE HAD A "SPECIAL USED VEHICLE REQUEST" DEPARTMENT. WOULD BE CURIOUS HOW MANY OTHER VIPER OWNERS HAVE BEEN APPROACHED FROM A DODGE DEALER TO SELL YOUR VIPER? MAYBE WE ARE SITTING ON GOLD.

Hahaha thats a load of crap. That's the pathetic new pitch for you to trade in your present car for a new one. I got the same letter from the chevy dealership where I bought my Tahoe, and that PROVES it's ******** cause nobody wants a used Tahoe behemoth now at 3.00 a gallon.

I have a 2002 Jaguar X-Type and got the same basic letter from my local dealer. It is probably just an attempt to get you in the dealer showroom to buy a new car.

Got the same one for my Viper back in May, it has been two years since the purchase. Definately a marketing scheme (scam).

I got a call today from a lady at Dodge who must have got my information from a local dodge dealership that I took my Viper into for some work. She asked how I liked the car and if I planned on buying another car within a year. She then asked if I'd be willing to trade in the Viper if they could give me more than the current market value. Just a damn marketing scheme.

well... if ur looking for a new viper, and wanted to trade in your old one... it wouldn't be THAT bad of a deal (although then ud need to check your head for wanting to get rid of a gen 1/2) :D

Most trade-ins they take in for less than current market value.

That's a funny letter,,,,what is so special about someone buying your car for "100% OF CURRENT MARKET VALUE". It might be special if they buy it at 150% of current market value. Even at that would still not do business with a dealer using that marketing approach.

Call up the dealer that sent you the letter and tell them that you no longer need the Viper, and want to sell it to them for 100% of current market value, but you do not want another car...just the cash.

I'll bet they won't have a response for that....

It's just another cheap stealership ploy. I've received a few of those letters from the various Mopar stealerships here in Vegas for differing vehicles (including the snake).

Tell them sure, you'll send them the car and another $50K if they help you cash a check with a simple wire transfer to your account in Nigeria...

Gerald, you got that right!!! And its a shame how many people believe all the scams that are out there. ESPECIALLY from car dealers. Anytime you get something in the mail from a dealer--dont even open it--just throw it away.

Once you saw the return address and saw it was from a car dealer you've never delt with, you should have thrown it in the garbage like I do.

A car dealership tried to mislead you? Really? Naahh. No way. :)

That's the HOT marketing concept dealers are using this summer.
Dodge dealerships will give you 100% trade. Yes, but read the fine print. And how much they deduct for mileage etc.
It works out in their favor. Trust me on that one! LOL
